The Oregon State baseball community is collectively and individually disappointed after being left out of the NCAA Tournament field, and off of the road to Omaha, but the Beavers, and Luke Heimlich, got a little bit of a consolation, when the sophomore lefty was named the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week for the final weekend of the regular season.
Heimlich earned his first ever Pac-12 weekly honor with a performance that produced a number of other firsts, as he threw his first collegiate career complete game, keyed by a career high 8 strikeouts, with no walks, on the way to a 6-0 win over UCLA that completed a first ever 3 game sweep all by shutouts for Oregon State, and the first time the Bruins have ever been shut out 3 games in a row.
UCLA was only 1 for 9 with runners on base, and went 0 for 6 with runners in scoring position, and got their leadoff batter on base just once.
Heimlich followed teammate Travis Eckert, who was named conference Pitcher of the Week last week, giving Oregon State 4 Pitcher of the Week and 2 Player of the Week honorees this year, which brought the Beavers' all time total of such honors to 80.
