Oregon State Announces Basketball Home and Home With Mississippi State

Guard Craig Sword Scored 13.7 PPG Last Season For Mississippi State - Brian Spurlock-US PRESSWIRE

Series will start next season.

We now know the first piece of the 2014-15 Oregon State men's basketball schedule. The Beavers will host Mississippi State on Saturday, December 13 at Gill Coliseum, the schools announced Monday.

Oregon State will then travel to Starkville the following season on a date still to be determined. The Bulldogs are looking to beef up their non-conference slates in coming years after having one of the weakest among power conference teams last season. The Beavers are in the same boat, being in the awkward situation of not being good enough to raise an opponents' RPI, while also being undesirable because they are not always a sure win.

While getting power conference opponents to agree to games on the road has been hard, getting them to come to Corvallis has been nearly impossible. The best non-conference team to hit Gill in the last five years has been Colorado, who was still in the Big 12 at the time.

Mississippi State finished last in the SEC last year, going 14-19 overall and 3-15 in SEC play. It did advance to the second round of the SEC Tournament, where the Bulldogs fell to rival Mississippi. They should be much improved, returning their top four leading scorers from that team.
