UCLA (23-24-1, 10-13) at #2 Oregon St. (37-8, 19-4) / Goss Stadium / 3:00 PM PDT / Pac-12 Channel / KEJO 1240 AM / KPOJ 620 AM
After taking the series with last night's 9-3 marathon win, defending Pac-12 Champion Oregon St. is in search today of their 6th weekend series sweep of the season, 5th in the Pac-12, and 3rd in a row today against defending National Champion UCLA, in a mid-Mother's Day afternoon start.
It was the longest non-extra inning outing of the year for the Beavers, taking 3 3/4 hours to play just 8 1/2 innings, but it must have seemed like it zipped by for leadoff hitter Jeff Hendrix, who, in the time flies when you are having fun, got leadoff singles in 3 of his first 4 at bats, and scored all 3 times, sparking the Oregon St. offense time and time again.
Dylan Davis, the Pac-12 RBI leader, added 2 to his total, but it was Gabe Clark hitting in the 5 spot that had a huge impact, with 4 RBIs.
Oregon St. has now won 4 series in a row against UCLA, and the Beavers will be looking for just their 3rd ever series sweep of the Bruins.
The Beavers will seek the sweep behind junior LHP Jace Fry (9-1, 1.59 ERA). All Fry did last week in Oregon St.'s 5-0 win at California was toss his third complete game shutout of the season, and his 3rd game in which he has allowed only 1 hit or fewer.
The Bruins will try to stop their 5 game losing streak, and snap Oregon St.'s 10 game run of wins, with sophomore RHP Cody Poteet (3-3, 3/90 ERA). Poteet went the first 6 innings last Sunday against Stanford, allowing 7 hits and 1 walk against 2 strikeouts. Poteet handed a 3-1 deficit over to the Bruin bullpen, and it eventually became a 5-2 loss, despite the fact the UCLA actually out-hit the Cardinal.
