#6 Oregon St. (23-5, 5-2) at #10 UCLA (19-7, 7-3) / 2 PM / Jackie Robinson Stadium, Los angeles / KEJO 1240 AM & KPOJ 620 AM
#6 Oregon St. and #10 UCLA continue their series this afternoon at Jackie Robinson Stadium. The Bruins took the opener Friday night 3-2, though only 847 were on hand to see the untelevised event, and another pitchers duel could be in store for today.
The Beavers will start freshman RHP Andrew Moore (5-1, 1.48 ERA), and the Bruins will counter with junior RHP Nick Vander Tuig (4-2, 2.11 ERA).
Oregon St. was pretty punchless against Adam Plutko again last night, getting only 2 hits on the UCLA ace, and 4 total. As a result, Matt Boyd suffered his first loss of the season, and only the second of his career, despite allowing only 4 hits in nearly 7 innings.
Another result was that Oregon St. dropped to 3rd place in the Pac-12, as UCLA moved past by 1/2 game. Coupled with Arizona St.'s 6-5 win in 11 innings over visiting Oregon, the Bruins were able to move within 1 game of the conference leading Ducks.
But recent history suggests a bounce back is possible. Last year, after a 2-0 loss to Plutko in the series opener, the Beavers bounced back win the weekend. And the second day's victory came against Vander Tuig, as Jace Fry turned in a complete game, and a 3-0 win.
And of course the last Saturday game at UCLA involving Oregon St. was Josh Osich's no-hitter.
Can the Beavers continue their Saturday success against the Bruins?
Coach Pat Casey has shaken up the lineup once again in search of the right combination to do so.
