Kyle Kemph from Washington High in Masssillon, Ohio, committed to Oregon St. today.

Oregon St. received a verbal commitment from quarterback Kyle Kempt from Washington High in Massillon, Ohio today.

Kempt is a prototypical Mike Riley quarterback, standing 6'5", and will doubtless beef up a bit from the 200 lbs. he played at this past season.

Kempt, rated a 3 star recruit by both Scout.com and Rivals.com, was originally an early commit to Cincinnati, but changed his mind after Bearcats coach Butch Jones left to take over at Tennessee, with Tommy Tuberville taking over at the Big-East school.

Kempt also had offers from Jones at Tennessee, and also West Virginia, Connecticut, MAC schools Bowling Green and Toledo, and also Pac-12 competitor Utah.

Kempt threw for a single season school record 3,056 yards last fall, with 32 TDs against 10 picks. As a junior, he threw for 1,335 yards, and added 16 touchdown passes, with just 4 interceptions, and as a sophomore, Kempt threw for 1,643 yards, with 14 touchdowns, and again, only 4 interceptions.

Here's his highlight video:

Kempt is the first quarterback to join the 2012 Oregon St. recruiting class, which now has 22 members.
