Arizona St. has fired Athletic Director Lisa Love, replacing her with Steve Patterson. Yes, that Steve Patterson, whom Oregon sports fans will recall from his time with the Portland [Jail] Trail Blazers. Patterson arrived in Tempe to head up a stadium remodeling project and parlayed that into a takeover of the entire program, capitalizing on Sun Devil supporters yearning for more success for their major programs than has recently happened under Love. What happens at Arizona St. obviously is a factor one way or the other in the fortunes of various Oregon St. programs. Patterson's track record does not seem to make an awakening of the supposed "sleeping giant" an imminent threat, but some in Tempe seem to be buying what Patterson is selling.
