Former Beaver Basketballer Found Hauling Drugs

Current Oregon St. student and former basketball player Daniel Deane was pulled over for speeding yesterday afternoon on highway 20 east of Burns in eastern Oregon. Deane, who was clocked at 86 mph in a 55 zone, was found to be hauling about 10 pounds of marijuana, and a substance believed to be Ecstasy, according to Harney County Sheriff David Glerup. Deane also had $4,500 in cash in the vehicle when stopped.

Deane said he was on his way from Corvallis to his hometown of Park City, Utah.

Deane, 24, was arraigned today in Harney County Circuit Court on felony charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, delivering marijuana, and money laundering, and was in the process of posting his $200,000 bail.

Deane, originally recruited by Jay John, transferred from Utah, and played for Oregon St. from 2008 thru 2011, finishing his playing career under Craig Robinson.
