USC Defensive Coordinator Monte Kiffin has announced his resignation, effective at the end of the year, following the Trojan's bowl game.

His stated reason is to seek other opportunities in the NFL, but what Kiffin has really done is save his son Lane the unenviable task of having to fire his own father, after the USC defense struggled repeatedly down the stretch, with the 62 point, 730 yard meltdown to Oregon the most spectacular episode.
