A "Celebration of Life" honoring the late Fred Thompson will be held on Thursday, Jan. 12, at 3 p.m. in the Austin Auditorium at the LaSells Stewart Center on campus. The celebration is open to the public.
Thompson, 19, a freshman defensive tackle on the Oregon State University football team from Richmond, Calif., passed away from a heart arhythmia on December 7, 2011, while playing basketball at the Dixon Recreation Center on the OSU campus.
Thompson's passing occurred during finals week, and the decision was made to hold the "Celebration of Life" after classes resume next week, and students have returned to campus.
Head football coach Mike Riley will provide some words of remembrance, and team chaplains Tom Ramsay and H.D. Weddel will preside over the approximate 30 minute tribute.
The Thompson family has created a charitable fund to help offset funeral and other expenses through Chase Bank.
Those wishing to make a contribution can mail a check made out to the "Fred Thompson Memorial Fund" to any Chase Bank.
