Beavers Without Borders

Beavers Without Borders participants in this past year's project include Marcus Wheaton, Rashaad Reynolds, and Lance Mitchell, shown with some of those who helped and will benefit from the project.

Last March, a team of 14 Oregon State student-athletes embarked on an extraordinary trip to rural Alotenango, Guatemala. The crew included Markus Wheaton, Yvenson Bernard, Lance Mitchell, and Taylor Kavanaugh, among others.

Here's a quote from Kavanaugh from the Beavers Without Borders page on the Oregon State website:

"Our goal was simple; to use the energy of sport, and build a new home for a struggling family. It was the very first excursion of its kind, and I can honestly admit to you that the project was more work than any OSU practice or workout any of us had ever endured."

Luckily, the BWOB team has put together a film on the inspiring trip. The goals for the film screenings are, one, to share the touching story behing the Guatemala trip, and two, to fundraise for the BWOB program so they can continue to make an impact and inspire others both locally and abroad.

The film premiers on August 12th at the Oregon State Alumni Center in Corvallis at 7:30 PM. For a full list of showings, please follow this link

Guatemala '11 Film Narrative -

"Family, Friends & Beaver Nation: As you may know, a team of 14 Oregon State student-athletes embarked on an extraordinary trip to rural Alotenango, Guatemala this last March. Our goal was simple; to use the energy of sport, and build a new home for a struggling family. It was the very first excursion of its kind, and I can honestly admit to you that the project was more work than any OSU practice or workout any of us had ever endured. The challenge was slightly risky and culturally shocking, but the human interest story that emerged was extremely telling and sincerely entertaining; it's one that I know all of Beaver Nation will enjoy. Our goals for these film screenings are two-fold: 1. Share this touching story for people to simply enjoy. 2. Fundraise for the BWOB program so we can continue to make an impact and inspire others both locally and abroad. Come join us this August and experience a never before seen perspective of Oregon State Athletics and it's stand-out athletes. You won't be disappointed." - Taylor Kavanaugh
