Josh Osich's No-Hitter!
If you are just getting back to OSU baseball for the weekend and you haven't been online checking on the score then you might not know about Josh Oshich's incredible no-hitter yesterday against UCLA, or you just might with this amazing feat the buzz of OSU baseball right now!
But indeed Josh Osich (now 6-1) pitched a complete no-hitter for the first time since 1947 in OSU baseball history and the first Pac-10 pitcher to do it in a conference game since 1994. He gave up one walk only and the Beavs won it 2 to 0 with Kavin Keyes' two run double in the sixth.
For more on the story see the OSU piece: Josh Osich Throws Fourth No-Hitter In Oregon State Baseball History (be sure to check out the neat Hank Hager pic of Josh in front of the scoreboard on the main OSU baseball page), and here is the Register-Guard piece: Oregon State baseball: Josh Osich trumps Bruin ace with no-hitter in 2-0 Beaver win, and the Gazette-Times write-up: Osich no-hits UCLA and Beavers win baseball series, and finally here is a YouTube clip of the last at bat for UCLA:
And for some more chills, and hoping Beaver Sports Radio Network is ok with this for this VERY special event, I have an audio clip below of Mike Parker calling the last at bat for UCLA: Josh Osich no-hitter last three batters
Congratulations Josh!

Great game.
I hope that Osich has turned a corner, moving from good to great or even elite.

What is blowing me away right now about the pitching
Is going down the line of pitching stats for OSU:
Bryant, Tony, ERA: 1.43; W/L: 3-1
Gaviglio, Sam, ERA: 2.00; W/L: 8-1
Osich, Josh, ERA: 2.77; W/L: 6-1
Nygren, James, ERA: 2.88; W/L: 7-1
Schultz, Scott, ERA: 3.18, W/L: 2-0
Wetzler, Ben ERA: 4.01; W/L: 5-1
And Boyd is at 0.92 with 4 saves and Bryant has 7 saves.
We all expected a good deal out of Gaviglio and were also expecting Wetzler to make a strong freshman showing, but those are some solid solid numbers. Maybe not spectacular overall for ERA I guess, but very solid there. But the W/L is just fantastic and especially in my opinion that there isn’t like one or two pitchers carrying the team with a few looser canons out there (like happens oh so often really) they ALL basically have stepped it up. I would say that our best pitcher in Gaviglio is actually the one who has had the rougher time of late overall and he’s still very much a go to guy this year.
I would also say until really now been a bit of a “quiet” under the radar showing by the bullpen overall.
PLUS, this is without Booser and Starr supposedly two of the best pitchers on the team.
You have to also think they way they are playing and improving as they get more game time this is going to carry us well through the rest of the season.

1 error eh?
That guys prolly feels horrible
Needed: Ping Pong table. Anyone wanna donate $78 million?

idk how man/if he did have any walks, so I’ll retract the statement.

You misread...
that error is against UCLA. And he did walk one man. One walk from a perfect game.
