Oregon St. Claims Pac-10 Gymnastics Championship

The Oregon St. Gymnastics team scored a season high 197.200 points in the process of winning the Pac-10 Championship Saturday night at UCLA's Pauley Pavilion.

Leslie Mak won the balance beam title with a career high 9.950 and the all around championship with a career best 39.525.

It was the first Pac-10 title for coach Oregon St. Coach Tanya Chaplin in her 14 years at the helm. The Beavers had last won the conference title in 1996.

UCLA took second with a 196.750 followed by Washington (196.025), Stanford (195.975), Arizona (195.475), California (191.575) and Arizona State (190.450).

Conference coaches voted Chaplin the Pac-10 Coach of the Year for the second year in a row, and the fifth time total. Mak was named the gymnast of the year.

Oregon St. will next be in action hosting one of the 6 NCAA regional meets on April 2. The other schools in the Beavers' region will be announced Monday.
