OSU @ Long Beach State, 2:30 PM & 6:00 PM // Blair Field // KEJO 1240/KPAM 860
The Beavers defeated Long Beach State 4-0 yesterday, as Sam Gaviglio threw a one hit shutout at the Dirtbags, but there's no time to rest as the Beavers will face the 49ers Dirtbags twice more today.
Originally, the schedule called for a single game, at 5:30, with another game tomorrow, but the threat of deteriorating weather prompted the teams to move up the schedule to improve the chances of getting the games all in.
The Game 1 starter for the Beavers is Ben Wetzler (2-1, 3.98), and Josh Osich (2-0, 2.92) will take the mound to start Game 2.
Long Beach State is 9-8 on the season, while Oregon State is 14-3. This is the place to talk about both of today's games.
Gaviglio was an inning opening single by Long Beach St.'s Mike Marjama away from a perfect game Friday night, which could be critical to claiming wins today, as every other pitcher on the staff is still available.
Gaviglio got back to back homers in the first inning from Andrew Susac and Danny Hayes, which would have been ample run support, but the Beavers added two more in the third inning, when Hayes doubled to drive in Garrett Nash and Susac.
Gaviglio served up a career high 14 strikeouts as well, handcuffing Long Beach St.
