Tuesday Conversation: Where Is Improvement Needed Most?
Oregon State's in an unusual spot this week-- a bye week after an opening game. It's a much needed bye week for OSU, as last Saturday's TCU game exposed a lot of weaknesses in the team. But, those weaknesses may not have looked as weak against a different opponent. I believe that the Oregon State team that showed up in Cowboys Stadium could have beaten the majority of teams in the Pac-10.
But the Beavers now know what they have to work on. Ryan Katz has film to watch, as does the defense.
Where do you think the Beavers need to improve most? The run defense has to get better, but Ryan Katz is going to have to outperform defenses who are loading the box and bringing the house.

Run D
by far. the QB situation will work itself out, Katz is young
"Twin-headed infinite swirling vortex of grotesque suckitude known as Tony Clark and Eric Byrnes"
and the winner is...
The run defense in a landslide!! What happened to our defensive quickness to the ball? Where is this teams Nick Barnett, Richard Siegler, Bill Swancutt, Slade Norris… (I could continue). Didn’t we used to be called linebacker U?? It just looked like the front 7 were all in quicksand and that doesn’t bode well for the Pac-10 season.
Someone mentioned in an earlier post LaGrone and Paaluhi — maybe those losses were bigger than anyone wanted to admit. I just know our linebackers and DE have to do a better job getting to the ball and taking on the offense line and running backs.
I also realize that it’s only 1 game, however patterns have a way of sticking around.
Go Beavs!!
Run "D".
I’ll drop the quotation marks the moment they
become unnecessary.
TCU beat us the same exact way Oregon did.
They ran the ball right at our weakness: the
linebackers and defensive ends. Over and over
and over again. And we couldn’t do anything
about it. Is it Banker’s fault? Doesn’t necessarily
matter whether it’s his fault, but it’s his problem:
he has to solve it. But he can’t get off blocks, nor
can he tackle. When you see WR’s manhandling
LB’s on run blocks, that is on the players.
Will it get better? Yes. Of course you’ll improve
from Week 1. But will it get to the point of contatining
Arizona or Oregon? I’m hopeful, but we’ll have to
wait and see.
P.s. As a side note, I actually think the Run “D” has
a direct impact on the Run O. We can only run the
ball so much when we’re behind, much less when
we don’t have the ball.
James freakin' Rodgers. Beast.
It pretty clearly is
the run defense. The defensive ends misread plays, the line backers got dominated by the receivers. The offense was not bad and will likely improve with Katz. Special teams need to iron out inconsistencies. The pass defense wasn’t even too bad, the season will likely come down to if the run defense will improve. Although, one play for a TCU td had Gabe Miller correctly reading a play, but still being unable to stop it. That play worried me, it makes me wonder if the defense might just not have the athletes to keep up, but hopefully they will learn enough to compete regardless of raw talent.

Why the UO advertisement on buildingthedam?
What the hell?
Why is there always a UO advertisement banner on the top of the buildingthedam.com page?
Also, why doesn’t Oregon State have their own sports network on tv?
O-Line needs the most improvement.
I think the Offensive Line needs the most improvement because if you can run the ball you can kill the clock, punish the opposing defense more, wear the opposing defense down, open up the passing game. I think we need more depth at running back as well.
I agree with Orange Joe, that the Run “D” has a correlation with the Run “O” too.
Why doesn’t OSU play with a chip on their shoulder, or with more of a swagger? I think this is very overlooked.
What are your thoughts?
Your paragraphs
Had absolutely no correlation to each other…?

you are correct
They were also posted 10 mins apart from each other. I was hoping someone would answer the questions, rather than be nit-picky.
Nah...
I meant within that post. But let’s not start a feud here. I do agree that it doesn’t seem like they play with as much swagger as some, but it’s only been one game, let’s wait and see how they develop.
WTY's ERA+ = 147 : - ) -- Kevin Frandsen > Brandon Wood??????
I dunno....?
I guess I was trying to get two for one? I didn’t want to over post or whatever. I have a lot of questions about the Beavers after game one, added with my randomness is the reason for the confusion.
Anyways and most importantly, GO BEAVERS!!!!
Not really

Whoops. Posted too early.
Not really. Outside of game threads, people aren’t gonna be online at the same time.

Not much to say right now.
It’s pretty clear that our Run D really needs to improve. You can’t let teams convert such a high percentage of 3rd downs with QB scrambles or allow them to dominate the time of possession so badly.
Obviously, Katz needs to improve, but I think a lot of his problems were nerves. I fully expect him to look much better after the bye week with a start under his belt.
The offensive line could have been better, but honestly, TCU probably still has one of the nastiest run defenses in the country.
Hekker needs to improve, but I don’t have much hope that will happen.

You obviously haven’t been here for a bad basketball season…
You should definitely stick around though. We definitely need some new blood posting. We have so many lurkers/non-posters!
Hey!
I post! Just not as often as I read. Sometimes, as said above… there just ain’t much to say.
Be like me.
Post when you have nothing to say. Just throw some words around and call it a post.

Don't be so sensitive, Nancy.
I know you post. I just fear that we have a lot of people that show up, check things out but don’t feel welcome to post or become active in the BtD community. Just trying to put the word out that we’re welcome to new posters—as long as you’re not trying to sell anything or shamelessly cross-promote another blog.
I was kidding.
Just bein’ silly ’cause I was bored. Heheh.
Ari jordan shoe Gucci bag #$34. Yeezy! We do the ship for free! :P
If only I could order some top new fashion with those ari jordan shoe gucci bags. The ship for free CERTAINLY makes this a tough deal to beat though… hmmm… I’ll need to think this over.
Those kind of posts always make me wonder who has the time to go around signing up for accounts on various sites just to post spam. Does someone get paid to cut-and-paste to any forum they can find? If it was a free-for-all (no signup) forum, I could see how one could create a bot to do that, but if you have to go through the signup/verification process before posting…

I can only imagine there's some sort of financial gain there.
And as dumb as the posts are (I mean, who REALLY buys crap through them?!) I’m guessing there’s some automated program that runs around the internet, splattering forum walls with promises of cheap nikes and bargain handbags.
I believe there’s a special corner of hell reserved for spammers.
