Postgame React: TCU 30, OSU 21
Final Score: TCU 30, Oregon State 21
A well-fought game at Cowboys Stadium was decided on one horrid play.
Sophomore quarterback Ryan Katz took the field with his offense, 82 yards away from the end zone. The Beavers were trailing by seven, and had five minutes to score.
Katz looked to be calling an audible and reading the defense when center Alex Linnenkohl snapped the ball. The ball went over Katz's head towards the end zone, and he kicked it to avoid a TCU defensive touchdown: a safety.
Unfortunately, that's the play that everyone will remember this game by.
TCU had no problems running the ball on the Oregon State defense, and the Beavers could never establish Jacquizz Rodgers. Nevertheless, Oregon State stayed in the game-- they just couldn't give themselves an opportunity to win it at the end.

QBs have to take their lumps at some point.
Katz gained some valuable experience. Hopefully a few rough games in 2010 means a good career.

Negative
- 0 passes to Quizz the entire game. Katz better change that.
- I don’t know what’s worse. Kahut being hurt, or him being healthy and kicking that FG that far off.
- That snap sucked.
- The defense had no answer for TCU’s running game.
- Katz held on to the ball a little long at times, and missed some routine throws in the 2nd half.
- Quizz couldn’t get anything (And on that note, why didn’t we use an offset i more often?)
Positive
- No one got hurt.
- Katz can throw the ball. Far.
- People other than James catching passes.
- Not many penalties, especially for the first game.
- O-line looked pretty good.
- The announcers made a Doctor pun.
WTY's ERA+ = 147 : - ) -- Kevin Frandsen > Brandon Wood??????
Ooh, thought of more.
Negative
- I thought Hekker was gonna stop kicking those?
Positive
- Hekker can throw.
WTY's ERA+ = 147 : - ) -- Kevin Frandsen > Brandon Wood??????
Katz had some great flashes out there
and he brings in a dimension we all called for last year in the deep ball. Just needs to learn how to take some heat off the ball.
We also need to remember this was against TCU’s defense, the #1 defense for the past two years.

This seems like the type of loss
That gets carried into the next game, which I hope doesn’t happen.

Well, it definitely could have been worse

(Masoli Karma, woo!)
I think Riley and the staff will shape up the team in the bye week.
I think having a bye week is going to take away the pain.
I just hope the boys don’t look past Louisville.

In my 10 Years of watching Beaver Football
I’ve never seen a team “carry over a loss” or “look ahead”. I’m confident Riley will have us ready for Louisville.

Disappointing
First thing is in no way am I down on this season for I think there is A LOT of good potential on this team. Katz is going to be good.
BUT damnit how many times and how many ways can the Beavs football teams come up short? Defense played like crap a lot of the time tonight but to get the ball back for the offense was awesome then to chuck the game away like that is just plain frustrating.
Yes though and Katz can throw the ball deep and on a line. Made some brain fart throws but got away with them and at times seemed on a different page than his receivers, and also needs to learn how to dump it off short. But I think the negatives will only be outweighed by his positives which the positives looked darn good to me. That TD throw to Bishop was awesome.
Was disappointed by the overall lack of running tonight but the offense still was moving the ball pretty well.
Defense needs practice and needs to work on the East to West stops for TCU spread out the D tonight way too much. I can’t believe the D couldn’t make the adjustments on the QB runs and also the option plays.
Kicking was a whatever for me tonight really, sure Kahut missed one (but it was a long one and had the distance) and Hekker had a bad low line driver, but really Hekker made up for it with the other punts and his throw and Kahut did his job on the PATs and never got the chance to boot another try to make up for the miss. I think it really came down to loose defense tonight overall.
Again though I hate the thought we didn’t even get the chance to see what the offense and Katz could do with the game on the line and it was all set up for that.
Played respectable on the national stage so nothing to be too down about though.
Onwards!

THIS. I was soooo excited. Even if the first play was a deep bomb that got intercepted, at least we had the chance. We didn’t give ourself a chance. But actually, the way the D was playing, we’re we almost had that opportunity.
WTY's ERA+ = 147 : - ) -- Kevin Frandsen > Brandon Wood??????
whoa. That whole sentence is messed up.
Should read “we were lucky we almost had that opportunity”
WTY's ERA+ = 147 : - ) -- Kevin Frandsen > Brandon Wood??????
Back at you!
Totally agree.
Lose the game on a play forward not some miscue backwards. Like you said give the QB the chance to lose it on a pass and not on having to kick the ball out of the endzone for a safety.
Done deal I guess but once again it stings (though not as bad as that Utah loss the other season).
whoa. That whole sentence is messed up.
It has been a long football night! No issues on my part!

that snap
that’s all.
….crap
"Twin-headed infinite swirling vortex of grotesque suckitude known as Tony Clark and Eric Byrnes"
Yeah,
that’ll resonate in my head for a while.
WTY's ERA+ = 147 : - ) -- Kevin Frandsen > Brandon Wood??????
Bye week won't help my mental state about it all though
Taking it to Louisville will help.

Impressed they did not give up
before on road games, I think they given up when it went bad. Tonight they fought back and were in it. Katz looked good, the D needs to work on the option.
Our starting safeties had a combined 31 tackles.
Really tells the tale of how our front 7 did against the rush…

also 1 sack isnt going to get it done against the pac-10 offenses.

It was nice to see
That after our Defense got pushed around all game, they stepped up in the 4th Quarter and got soem big stops.

IMO...
a much better opening game than a PSU or _. Yeah, definitely a tough loss, but the Beav’s come away with the knowledge of what to work on. Coach Banker really needs to get this defense up to speed on the Spread Option. I agree with other posters that the Beav’s should know how to handle it by now!
GO BEAV’s!!
I would rather lose 20 games by nine against TCU
Then beat New Mexico by 72. College Football is about entertainment, and I was definitley entertained tonight.
