BYU About To Back Down?
The Denver Post has run a story that they have sources, un-named of course, that leads them to believe that BYU is going to back off on plans to leave the Mt. West Conference, going independent in football, and sending their other teams to probably either the WAC or the WCC. The Mt. West had set a Sept. 1 deadline for a decision by BYU. Should BYU stay put, the Mt. West will be at 11 teams in 2011, since they have already accepted Fresno. St. and Nevada, as well as Boise St. This will make it very likely that the Mt. West will make an earnest move to attract one more member, making it possible for them to stage a conference championship game, and make more money in the process, a share of which would go to BYU.
