New From the Pac-10

New-pac-10-logo-150x113_medium
The Pac-10 has unveiled their new logo, and has a pretty cool football promo video out, in preparation for Media Days this week, starting with the appearance in New York tomorrow, the visit to Bristol, and the ESPN home offices, and then Media Day from the Rose Bowl Thursday.

Watch closely and you will see that Oregon St., Reser Stadium, and the Rogers brothers are all prominent pieces.

There is also a conference promo, with a lot of football history and current action.

Here's the timetable for Thursday morning. Coach Mike Riley and Jacquizz Rogers will take center stage just before lunchtime.

9:30 a.m. - Introduction and Format - Dave Hirsch
9:35 a.m. - Pac-10 Commissioner Larry Scott
9:45 a.m. - Paul Wulff & DE Kevin Kooyman, Washington State
10:00 a.m. - Dennis Erickson & PK Thomas Weber, Arizona State
10:15 a.m. - Rick Neuheisel & FS Rahim Moore, UCLA
10:30 a.m. - Steve Sarkisian & LB Mason Foster, Washington
10:45 a.m. - Jeff Tedford & LB Mike Mohamed, California
11:00 a.m. - BREAK
11:15 a.m. - Lane Kiffin & QB Matt Barkley, USC
11:30 a.m. - Jim Harbaugh & FB/LB Owen Marecic, Stanford
11:45 a.m. - Mike Riley & RB Jacquizz Rodgers, Oregon State
12 noon - Mike Stoops & QB Nick Foles, Arizona
12:15 p.m. - Chip Kelly & DT Brandon Bair, Oregon
12:30 p.m. - Pac-10 video presentation

Star-divide

Jake's budget doesn't include any of us getting to go to New York or Bristol (email jake.buildingthedam@gmail.com to lobby for more road trip coverage!), so we won't be able to quite keep up with the likes of Ted Miller, but we will be striving to keep Beaver Nation informed of all the new moves this week that Pac-10 Commissioner Larry Scott has in store to get the Pac-10 brand in front of the rest of the nation. And watch for full coverage of the more traditional Media Day, which has been moved this year from the LA Airport out to the Rose Bowl, the Pac-10's signature facility.

Oh and is it just me,

Or does it seem like there’s more footage of us than
anyone else in that video? Now granted, I may be
seeing it through orange-colored glasses, buuut… ;)

Yeah

Especially Quizz. You can tell the Pac-10 is trying to push the “Quizz For Heisman” Campaign.

Wanna know what does have tons of OSU clips?

A versus commercial I saw while watching the tour de France. It was like two minutes of Oregon state with the occasional other clip.

Is that a mountain

In the background of the logo?

I think it's drawn

So it could almost be seen as a wave.

Looks like a blue wave under a white mountain to me.
The wave starts near the bottom of the logo.

Looks like it to me, too. Guess they had to figure out some way to tie the mountain schools to the Pacific. :)

Aaaand looks like they nailed it.

That’s what hiring a professional graphics designer will get you! :P

I think it’s a cool looking logo. Kind of reminds me of an army unit badge or something.

Wow

That’s actually pretty cool.

I knew it!

I had a feeling they’d do both. That’s why I asked if it was a white mountain or foam on a wave.

This just in: OC Reg predicts

We’ll be their (USC’s) second loss of the year.

I'd love

For that to become true

Heck yeah!

Should have beat them at their place last year, too. That one still tastes bitter. Then (after this year’s game) we’d have a 3-year streak going on them! That would be sweet!

by sangdorange on Jul 26, 2010 11:13 AM PDT up reply actions

That would be a 5 year streak of losing in the state of Oregon for USC.

it’s spelled "S-H-U-F-R-E-A-K-I-N-H-E-R-O-U-T-M-A-N"

Soo...

Apparently they’re not planning on changing the name of the conference at all?

by sangdorange on Jul 27, 2010 9:44 AM PDT reply actions

No need to.

The vast majority of our teams are still on the P
acific. The only reason for change would have been the addition of the Big 12 (read: Big Texas) schools.

I meant in the number…

I'd be surprised if we don't become

the Pac-12, and maybe the Pac-11 for a year. The logo and the whole western university theme can easily be adapted. And while the Big 10 that is 11, and will be 12 sees a marketing value to “Big 10”, I think it is the “Pac” that has the market value, and not the numeral. The transition from Pac-8 to Pac-10 went just fine.

Are they going to change the new logo already? If they like being “mathematically correct…”

by sangdorange on Jul 28, 2010 10:06 AM PDT up reply actions

We will only be 10 teams this year

so there will be no need to avoid selling lots of logoed stuff that has a shelf life of one season. And then sell more next year!
