My plan is to get an iPad when it's released. Then, I'm planning it on having the Beavers logo etched right on it, pending licensing fees.
Yes, I now go to that extremes to support my Oregon State Beavers.
Go Beavs.

I think etching the Beaver logo on it is the only good part of this idea...
Seriously though… why do you want an iPad?

As an OSU student who also happens to have extensive inside information about Apple
Multi-taksing: iPhone OS 4.0, which should be released in June or July of this year. Uses many of technology from Snow Leopard technology that makes it look like WildBeaver on crack. (aka, it’s battery saving, which is why Multi-tasking was huge problem with mobile phones, but now Apple cracked the code)
USB: There’s a better connectivity system, called Bluetooth. No cables required, all wireless
Keyboard: Believe it or not, Apple did make the device compatible with Bluetooth keyboard
Webcam: Battery Issue, hopefully, next gen could solve it.
Expandable Memory: Sure it’s handy, but then the device gets heavier. Android phone are heavy where as iPhone is somewhat heavy but not as heavy.
Flash Video Porn: Ever heard of HTML5? (Wikipedia)
Super Absorant: Apple designed the internals of iPhone 3GS to be waterproof in any way possible (although it will still void the warranty, but it should survive a drop on water) The Same internal is used on iPad.
But regardless, I’m still going to get it, and I’m getting it with the Beavers logo “laser” itched on the back, so it’ MINE!
But I’ll show you the actual device once I bought it, and have it laser itched.

I’m pretty sure Apple (And you as an insider should know) has specifically taken a stance against multiprocessing on mobile devices. Multiprocessing hampers the device’s performance. Suddenly the slick interface will get bogged down and run sluggish in a multiprocessing environment – especially with the level of polish Apple demands.

Hell. No. Bluetooth is far from a better connectivty system. Yes, wires are a pain in the butt, but not every device is bluetooth enabled, and bluetooth is slow as mud for data transfer. USB 3.0 is going to be mainstream first, and it will take a new wireless technology to come close to that.
Expandable Memory: Sure it’s handy, but then the device gets heavier. Android phone are heavy where as iPhone is somewhat heavy but not as heavy.
The weight of expandable memory is negligible. 0.5 grams is hardly the reason why Android phones are heavier than the iPhone.

HTML5 video isn’t an interactive medium. In addition, as long as Microsoft has such a major share of web browsers, people will not design with HTML5 – no matter how much they want to. Why? Because they would abandon a large market share. This is one of the major fallbacks of the failure of Vista.

Nnnnnnnnnnnnneeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrddddddds!!!!

In all seriousness, as someone who’s not into technology the iPad appeared to me as a giant iPhone that doesn’t make phone calls. And that didn’t seem very cool to me.
The best part of this is the laser etching. At least alchemistmuffin has the good sense to involve the angry beaver here!
But still...
I want wireless syncing. My hard drive and my printer, and even my DVD burners are all wireless. I just connected them to my USB hub, which is connected to a wireless router. Less wires connected to my mac = more freedom.
HTML5 is the future. Everyone is ditching IE for firefox, or even Safari. HTML is much better, since nothing needs to be installed. It’s all ready out of the box.
And expandable memory: WHO NEEDS IT when you have 16 GB!
Anyway, enough of me being a nerd. I’m pumped for baseball.

Oh my god, don’t remind me.
The thing I absolutely loved with my old Zune was wireless syncing. Yes. I could sync without connecting with the cable.
When I got my iPod touch, I was about to throw the damn thing against the wall. That was a damn convenient thing to have.
HTML5 IS the future, but realistically, we are still a few years from that being mainstream. People like you and myself are ditching IE, but the truth is over half of the users online are STILL on IE, and almost ALL of them are on IE6. As a web developer, you have no idea how much I wish I could just run a script that would automatically install Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera, Hell – Even IE 7 or later to everyone that visited the site with IE6.
Regarding expandable memory, I do agree. There are some little things that are nice about expandable memory (Like being able to take pictures with a digital camera, then being able to place the SD chip inside the phone and get have the pictures)
What type of etching are you going to get? Silkscreen? Laser?

Laser
I considered Slikscreen, but since Apple uses Laser technology, I’m going to use “laser”. (notice the quote before laser. paying nod to Austin Powers)
Yes, I have to agree. Even though the dock connector cable is nice, sometimes, it’s just too short, and now, it’s starting to wear out completely. Someone at the Engineering department needs to invent a new dock connector that’s better than what Apple provides.
I’m watching YouTube in HTML5. The reason why I like HTML5 is that I am a web site designer on my free time, and I’ve been playing around with HTML5, and it’s much more smoother than Flash. (well, not quite, but we’ll get there. Until then Quicktime, CSS animation, etc it is!)

as someone who works on a major web platform, we will continue to support IE6 until the market share drops below 10%. A 9 year old browser still has nearly 20% market share.
HTML 5 is an awesome improvement and we’ll be using it in web-technology based applications that don’t require multiple browsers but if you are doing anything on the Internet, you’re going to alienate a ton of your potential visitors, at least initially

Ha ha!

I have thought the same thing before! Even tried to make a site that wouldn’t let you in until you got yourself a decent browser. Yeah… that didn’t go over so well. Find a solution to a problem, and someone will build a better idiot… :)
Dude...
Got any info on whether or not us nerds stuck in Verizon-land will be able to get an iPhone sometime this year?
