Game 32 Open Thread: Oregon State vs. Boston U.

Boston U. Terriers at Oregon St. Beavers, Mar 17, 2010 7:00 PM PDT

Oregon State vs. Boston U. // 7:00, Gill Coliseum // No TV

The Beavers hope to begin a long run through the CBI tonight, but they'll have to get past a hot-shooting Boston U. team first.

Talk about it here.

Go Beavs!

Wish the game was on TV! Those cheesy graphics on GameTracker do not quite do the action justice!

I hate the 5 pt turnarounds…..missed layup-other team makes a three

No

They are just hitting everything.

Connor!!!

I spent 10 bucks on this game!!!!

Actually I’m kind-of excited for the baseball coverage so just joking.

Wish I was joking about this game though, ugly and flat footed performance so far. Still a half to go but right now I’m thinking it was better to end the season with the hard fought UW loss in the Pac-10 tournament.

Not even Robinson seems to have any energy right now.

They all better come out fired up and ball some smarter ball in the second. If we lose, we lose but need to at least make a game of it.

Halftime 46-27 Boston

Wow, this feels like some of the non-conference debacles! I am starting to think the P-10 was way, way down this year. Nobody else around the country seems to have any problems with the 1-3-1!

by mckalk on Mar 17, 2010 7:51 PM PDT reply actions

Not really about them having an answer for the 1-3-1

Beavs have played terrible so far on both sides of the ball and especially on offense. Some of the most lazy and brainless passing I’ve seen in awhile.

I have an idea

Let’s take everyone out except for Jared for he is the only one on the Beavs who seems to be playing a basketball game right now.

Well nevermind now Calvin is in for Jared…

Must have been an inspiring half-time speech. If the team is three games under .500 next year it might be time to say thanks, but no thanks.

by mckalk on Mar 17, 2010 8:17 PM PDT reply actions

I disagree

It’s good for experience and practice time, if nothing else.

I disagree

This was one game too many. I’ve been down on the players play BUT really this comes down to the coaching staff for not having them ready for this game and for everyone who scheduled this game.

They aren’t getting any good practice time out of this for they aren’t even close to executing on either side of the ball. The only one out there that looks to even have his head in the game is Cunningham.

It is also a piss poor way for the seniors (who did so much for the team last year) to go out.

Bad coaching move on this game.

Agree with RVM

I agree…not sure what they did in practice because all I read was what great shooters BU had. Beavers were not able to play anything that resembled their style.
Not trying to be a jerk, but Robinsons relationships helped the Beavers get into this tournament the past two years and granted they took advantage of it last year. I am just saying if they stay where they are again next year it is time to pass on this tournament. If they are something like 17-14 and the only offer they get is from the CBI then go for it.

by mckalk on Mar 17, 2010 9:12 PM PDT up reply actions

Boston U is a fine team, and hit their long shots when needed which was impressive

But they did nothing all that special, the Beavs in the first half had WAY too many turn-overs and throughout the game never got back on defense in their full court pressing.

And to join your trying to not be a jerk, I wasn’t all that excited about making the CBI this year and now that is reinforced in that I honestly don’t think we should have made it in. They are other teams who deserved it more and would have made more out of it. Again, I think the UW game was a better one to go out on and the team will learn more from that one than this one.

That’s just how I see it and feel next year will be better. And all in all not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things.

I do not always get Robinsons substitution philosophy….am I the only one?

Sometimes

I feel the same. But he’s the Professional, so let’s let him do his job.

I do not think three days of practice is a big deal. If the team is no better than three games below .500 next year, I think it is time to say no

by mckalk on Mar 17, 2010 8:22 PM PDT reply actions

Three days isn't

But if we advance it turns into quite a lot.

Wallace playing with some fire

Too late but nice to see that type of leadership coming from him right now.

Hit a long three, big time block on a Boston U layup attempt, and now a FT to complete a three point play.

And he hits it, nice.

fighting for playing

time next year. Remember he got a DNP against UW.

by mckalk on Mar 17, 2010 9:15 PM PDT up reply actions

Yep, and if he can actually play like that he will be the off the bench force we hope for

But he, like the whole team, was way too inconsistent this season to make me totally confident for him next year.

I give the younger players more of a pass this season but people like Wallace, Johnson, Haynes, and the seniors should have been a bit more consistent. I mean everyone has an off game but no one really stepped up. Broken record I guess by now, but annoying as hell seeing it happen.

by rvm on Mar 17, 2010 9:24 PM PDT up reply actions

It will be interesting.....

I could see a scenario where a lot of Johns boys ride the pine next year. Robinson is kind of alluding to it on the radio now. I think he is ready to have enough of his own players to move forward.

by mckalk on Mar 17, 2010 9:31 PM PDT up reply actions

I can see that, he doesn't hide some of his frustration with players does he?

And really those players are huge sources of frustration.

Though Burton played like a dip**** tonight I have to admit. I really like Big Joe and think he will be a very good player, but that was not a good mental game by him tonight.

-RVM

by rvm on Mar 17, 2010 9:34 PM PDT up reply actions

Yup on Burton and one more thought

Keep the hustle and boards, lose the turnovers and missed layups. And it seems the TOs struck late for Burton, it was like all the kudos about him being a great passer went to his head!

Interesting also…Robinson was just talking about how young his team is going to be next year and he says this even though they will still have four seniors that have started at one time or another. In this day and age of college hoops 4 seniors is a lot, but I think it goes to what you said about his frustration with their consistency. Mike Parker wanted to go on about Lathans great second half tonight and Rob did not want to really talk about it.

by mckalk on Mar 17, 2010 9:45 PM PDT up reply actions

Totally agree, and next year will be a very interesting year indeed. I kind-of thought this year would be, but looking back on it all now it was a very much transition year into a new coaching era.

96 - 78 Beavs lose

Well that should have been much much worse, but that really means it could have been much better.

Good season guys

Tough way to go out, but only four teams finish the season with wins. There were a lot of ups and downs, but let’s remember the ups first and foremost. Like sweeping Oregon, Arizona, and USC. This team has a lot of potential, and I’m excited for next year.

Time for Baseball Season!

I like the thinking here

Yes, the ups were pretty cool. The winning Wallace three over UA, the sweeps, and also don’t forget that win over Cal! That was a hell of a game and that was a great glimpse of the potential you are talking about.

Yes, more baseball!
