Defensive situation

Once upon a time Oregon State football was known for it's defense prowess. As few as 5 years ago we were in the top of most defensive categories in the NCAA much lass the Pac-10, how far we have fallen.

It's impossible to expect Oregon State's offense to keep out playing our defense's ineptitude every week! Allowing 459.2 yards and 30.8 points per game is the reason Oregon State is 3 - 3 and a primary reason for the loss to uDumb -- so why hasn't Banker made any personnel changes?

Hardin at LCB and the Wilson/Robinson combo at MLB is not working, PERIOD. We need Jordan Poyer starting at corner, because it looks like Hardin is playing linebacker at his position. If you watch his technique, speedier receivers are constantly getting past him as if he's expecting over the top help, like a nickle or a cover two. Well he's not going to get support from the safeties, because the defense generally plays straight up man to man. I hear that Branden Hardin is supposed to be one of our bigger hitters, well put him in as a safety behind Mitchell/Tuimaunei so he can use his skills filling gaps and on blitz's. As for MLB, a lot of people have mentioned moving Roberson from OLB to the middle. Well why not try it? In his place, make Collins the full-time OLB. Since he began playing that spot regularly after Roberson was injured, I've noticed Collins has been in and around the ball the last 3 games more than the Wilson\Robinson combination have been all season. He has speed and the ability to recognize plays as they begin to develop. This is instinctive and he needs to be our starting OLB opposite Pankey. Why is Banker reluctant to make these two changes? How much worse could it get?

It's impossible for me to believe that the once respected Oregon State defense has fallen this far off pace. Earlier in the year people on the "they'll get better" side of the river pointed to TCU and Boise State as having powerful offenses, well Louisville, Arizona State, and uDumb are not offensive juggernauts! So here we sit 3 - 3 with a defense that's giving up 460 yards per game and  3 - 5 record over the last eight games! I think we can do better and I would like to see some changes made, when I played football in high school and I was getting out played -- the coach would pull me and sit me down. Banker needs to make some changes now!
