Monday links and other stuff
As this basketball season chugs clunks along, I'm forced to admit that I really, really miss last year's team. You know, the one without the good recruits? The one that returned almost the entire roster from the 0-18 campaign? Yeah, that's the team I'm talking about. Sure, on paper they were a disaster, but the style of play fit Coach Robinson's defensive and offensive game plan perfectly: desperate, relentless and energetic.
This year, a heavier Roeland Schaftenaar and the inconsistent Tarver tandem has done little for the Beavs in what was supposed to be great season according to many. I'm not giving up yet. The last eight or nine minutes of the Cal game weren't terrible. They surged and came up short which is more respectable than the lay down and die efforts they've put forth against Seattle U. and Stanford. Could this week against the Southern California schools be better?
There's a lot of season left and time to turn it around... but if you're still taking crazy pills and think that this team might somehow sneak into a post season tournament (one not called the CBI that is) you might want to re-evaluate things and switch your meds.
Links:
- Beavs look bad at Stanford and slightly less bad at Cal. Remember when the Beavers pulled the Bay Area sweep last year? Yeah... that was cool. The Oregonian says that out of the crappy PAC 10 basketball teams from the State of Oregon, OSU is the least crappy! Yessssssssss.
- Here's a piece on the frustrating up and down year the Beavs have been having. You'll probably agree.
- 35 Points at Stanford. No, that's not what Calvin Haynes or Schafty scored. That's what OSU was able to manage in sixty freaking possessions! ESPN takes a closer look at the ugly, ugly numbers from last week.
Anyway... I don't have anything else to speak of. Keeping my fingers crossed for a better week of hoops. As usual, post any news below. GO BEAVERS!

It’s official: Bernard has decommitted from ND and lists OSU, ND and UNC as his top three. ESPN reports here.

The last I heard he had been partially cleared… anyone seen/heard an update on his status?

I'd count on him to red shirt at this point.
The last word was that he was cleared to sit on the bench at games, practice and travel (I think)… his HS counselor really dropped the ball by letting him take a flimsy online class to graduate early. He should be on the floor right now, STARTING.
What kills me the most is hearing all of the reports about how already it’s clear that he’s the best player the Beavs have right now. Apparently he’s killing it in practice… sigh… next year.

hmm
This could be an issue especially according to the opening paragraph, but makes one wonder when the accuser comes right out and names the accused, that just seems a bit odd especially for someone from the same school, which seems to be opening you up to a world of hurt. I don’t know something doesn’t quite add up here, but not good press nevertheless.

Neither the theft nor the brawl "add up"
but regardless of who did what, or deserved what, the fact that both situations got so far out of hand is a bigger issue than what actually happened. Not that nothing ever goes sideways in Corvallis (it does), but it seems every winter there is at least one weekend where major problems break out in Eugene. There is a difference in the demographics of the student body attracted to OSU than the UofO.

Not sure your point
And? Like you said plenty of bad happens in Corvallis too, I’ve gone to both schools and lived in both towns and even though the demographics are different, to a point, there is some stuff from OSU and Corvallis that could be improved upon. Just like when people from Eugene (UO) get on Corvallis (OSU) about how hickville and unprogressive it is and it can be the total opposite at times, so kind-of the kettle and the pot if you ask me on both sides. Don’t get me totally wrong, for I have had to defend OSU to Eugene people in much the same way many times when sordid press has come out.
I very much have embraced and take pride in the differences (the good aspects) of both communities, but they are more alike than some people give them credit for.
