Gio decommit from Domers
What do you think the chances are that Riley and his staff can land Yev's little bro?
By all indications, this could be one of the best recruiting classes ever. Lots of *** & even **** recruits will soon be part of Beaver Nation. I don't want to get my hopes up, but since the extension for Riley was offered and accepted a week ago, things just continue to look up for the future of this program!

I was wondering when this would happen!
I thought with the coaching change Gio might reconsider either: A. Oregon State or B. Something in the state of Florida (closer to family, especially in light of the recent events in Haiti)
Hope he gives Oregon State another look!

Wait a minute...
The only news I can find about him out there is that he’s now going to visit UNC but will stay committed to ND… do you have links that say otherwise?

Here’s an interesting bit I found…
From the South Bend Tribune
Shopping around
Notre Dame running back recruit Giovanni Bernard said Wednesday in a text message that he will visit North Carolina but remains committed to the Irish. No date has been set for the trip to Chapel Hill.
The 5-9, 200-pound Bernard played at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. It is the same school that has sent a number of players to Notre Dame recently, including offensive linemen Sam Young and Dan Wenger, punter Ben Turk and long-snapper Jordan Cowart.
Bernard told Rivals.com he is also strongly considering Oregon State, a school he took an official visit to last September.

yikes. that's not how i intended this to look at all. everything below the text box should be IN the text box, as it is all quoted from the SBT...

I heard Iona might not make it in to school
by Escrote on Jan 18, 2010 4:10 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
It was just a rumor on Angry Beavers blog...
http://angrybeavers.wordpress.com/
“1. As expected, Happy Iona will not be attending OSU due to academics. He was a DT and one of two 4-star recruits.”
Not too sure how true it is. That is part of the problem with scout.com and rivals.com… they aren’t going to report something like that because it is one of OSU’s “prized recruits” and they want to sell subscriptions. Who knows though really… maybe he gets it together, maybe he is a greyshirt, maybe he never shows up.

FWIW....
Scout.com now lists Gio as having no interest in Notre Dame and high interest in NC and OSU. Rivals.com has him listed as highly interested in all 3. Hopefully he comes out here to OSU.

Got to kind of wonder if OSU's chances aren't really good now
We have a coach that just has committed for a fairly long term versus his interest (and now seemingly disinterest) in a program that seems to be very wishy-washy with their coaching status over the last few years.

Seriously
Does anyone know what’s so appealing about UNC anyway? I’m not trying to dis their program, I just wouldn’t want to go there for four years.

academics, coaching, it is a program on the rise, proximity to home
I don’t think OSU is a lock but our chances look decent.

Well, football aside...
UNC isn’t a bad school to get an education from, if you know that is something he would like too. Seriously Connor I love OSU too and I’m pulling for him to come here, but that is a bit a naive thing to say overall about UNC.
I agree with Escrote though our chances look decent. I think maybe the brother deal might help a bit more now (?), but who knows.

Its a top tier academic school
Gorgeous campus, good size (about 30,000 students). Larger alumni base, more money, more exposure. Butch Davis is one hell of a coach. But I think most importantly, what its going to come down to is: LOCATION.
Yvenson repeatedly talks about how he wishes he could have played closer to home so his dad could have seen him more. Not sure if Giovanni feels the same way, but I’m sure it will play a part. One thing we have that UNC does not is Yvenson recruiting for us. Its a program that I’m sure Gio is familiar with and has followed.
But to answer your question, there is a lot that is appealing about North Carolina than us. We are about in the same tier football wise, and remember that he is from the East Coast. He will hear about NC a lot more than he has heard about us.

If Gio falls through I bet we can get this Rivals 6-star RB out of Hollywood, CA...

It's apparently for an upcoming film called "The Beaver"
Here’s a quote from MTV’s movie blog:
According to Variety, Mel Gibson will star in “The Beaver” with Jodie Foster performing double duty as director and costar. Gibson will play a man struggling with depression who finds solace in his beaver puppet, which he treats as a real person. Foster plays his wife, who will undoubtedly have a few issues with this inanimate third wheel in their marriage.
Awesome? Probably not…
But these pictures are great and will provide me with endless hours of entertainment. Well, at least one or two hours. (OK, one and a half, tops.)

Where do you find this stuff?
What’d you have in mind in the Photoshop department?

I can’t remember how I found this… a lot of stuff I find on accident. Google is weird like that.
As far as photoshop, not entirely sure… there are a lot of possibilities though. I think putting a Beavers jersey on Mel would be my first order of biz.

I didn't type that right
I know the academics are great. But for their Football program, I don’t think they are on the rise. They’ve had a couple of good seasons, but that doesn’t mean they’re on the rise. Butch Davis is a great coach though.
By the way, I know that there is more to a University than Football. I shouldn’t of posted that above. So to all the UNC fans, sorry.

That makes a bit more sense
Sorry if I got a bit harsh there, seemed a bit funny to say about one of the better colleges out there when I read it.
Football program, hard to say really but overall I tend to agree with the comments above and really UNC and OSU seem about on the same level as far as football, but I would add that the overall athletic program there is more renowned than ours too, but yes I kind-of think location is very important here and he’s on the East Coast and Corvallis and OSU aren’t as familiar even with his brother here. But hey we got the Rodgers brothers to come here so…

I'd say we are on a bit higher level
I mean, we’re contending for Rose Bowls each year and they’re contending for Meineke Car Care Bowls. As far as their overall athletic program, I can’t disagree with you there. Although we have owned them in Baseball :)

Yeah, I can go there with you about football but they do seem like a program on the rise and like us a stable coaching crew overall. But yes the last couple years our program has notched it up, but again we did lose that Las Vegas bowl this year…sigh…so don’t know if we should be throwing around Meineke Bowl smack talk…sigh…

It's not our fault
The Pac-10 Bowls suck. And we were tied for 2nd at the end of the Regular Season.

Well yes and no, totally there about the Bowls we get (thinking next year with the new line up it could be better), but at the same time losing the game was not the Bowl’s fault.

I didn't mean for it to sound like
The result in the Bowl Game is important. Now that I look back on it, there was no way we were going to win that game. We left everything we had at Autzen.

Actually, funny enough, all in all I personally am not sure it was that important
To a point yes, but in the end I totally agree with you that we left it at Autzen. I think if we were able to play in the Holiday Bowl and played like we did against BYU then it would have mattered much more in the long run. I think that Las Vegas game was a bit of hiccup on the way to better things, but that’s just me.
So, I was just saying we still can’t really give UNC grief for playing for lesser bowls for BYU did and BYU took it to us. Kind-of a double position for me to take, hope it makes sense, but I think I mostly agree with you.

Gio commits to NC... at least according to this source.

It would be a heck of a surprise if he sent his LOI to OSU… lol.
