Gerhart, Gronkowski Going To The Pros
It's decision day for football players with NCAA eligibility left regarding early exit to the NFL, and Stanford Cardinal running back Toby Gerhart and Arizona Wildcats tight end Rob Gronkowski have decided the time is now for them.
Gronkowski, who joins his senior brother Chris, a fullback, in the draft is hoping they both join older brother Dan, already with the Detroit Lions, in the pros.
Three brothers in the NFL at one time? That's would be unbelievable. That was always my dream.
Gerhart, who finished second in the Heisman Trophy voting, is a senior, but still has a year of eligibility at his disposal, for both football and baseball. However, Gerhart has also decided to withdraw from Stanford for the winter quarter, in order to devote his time to prepare for NFL Combine in February.
After careful thought and deliberation, I have decided to withdraw from Stanford University for the winter quarter in order to fully devote my energies towards the pursuit of my dream of playing in the NFL. I certainly will miss patrolling left field on the Sunken Diamond, and running through the gaping holes created by my O-linemen on the gridiron at Stanford Stadium, and I will forever cherish the camaraderie, friendships, and memories that I forged here at Stanford with all my friends, teammates, and coaches. Most of all, I wish to thank the entire student body, and Stanford fans everywhere, for the tremendous support and boundless enthusiasm they have shown us over the past four years.
Both Gronkowski, who expects to be fully healthy, after missing the entire season due to a back injury, and subswquent surgery, and Gerhart will participate in the NFL Combine, scheduled for Feb. 24-March 2 in Indianapolis.
