College Football Kickoff (UO/BSU) Open Thread

Finally, we made it. 237 days without College Football ends today. The season begins with a doubleheader on ESPN. At 4:00 PM the Gamecocks of South Carolina take on the NC State Wolfpack. Then, at 7:15 Oregon will take on the Boise State Broncos on the Smurf Turf.

UPDATE by Jake, 8:52 pm: First half in the books in Boise, with Oregon coming through with 0 first downs and 14 total yards on offense. Boise State, by comparison, has 15 first downs and 185 total yards. Still, the Broncos are only up by thirteen points on the scoreboard, and there's still an entire half to play. See you in the thread for second half chatter.

Feel free to leave all of your comments on the games here.

FTD!

No seriously when it comes to the ducks I could care less about the Pac-10. I will root for every other Pac-10 school (even the huskies) when they play other conferences, but NEVER for the hated ducks! I was born and raised in Corvallis and hating the ducks (and hating the beavs for life long duck fans) is just a basic state of life :)

I’ve even tried to root for the Ducks when I’ve bet on them or something. Five minutes in, I’m rooting for the other team.

Two 3 & punts not how the Ducks wanted to start!

But how big a missed chance for Boise St. is driving 94 yards, only to fumble twice and push a field goal wide!

So far, its about which team doesn’t do something to win the game.

And another makable field goal pushed wide right!

Nearly 10 minutes more time of possession, keeping the Oregon offense off the field, but Boise has nothing to show for totally dominating the game so far.

The Duck defense has been on the field for around 18 minutes already! It will be interesting to see how much gas they have in the tank; they looked whipped on the TD and the two point conversion.

Brotzman finally hits a field goal

for a 13-0 lead. The Duck defense isn’t the problem; it should be a 4 score lead. Not sure I’d blame Masoli all that much either; it’s the Duck offensive line that isn’t getting anything done.

by capnbly on Sep 3, 2009 8:38 PM PDT reply actions

Ducks finally get a first down,

but then another punt, and it’s all Broncos! But it should be a much bigger lead; two plays erase it all. The Ducks were last in DI in time of possession last year, but I doubt the Ducks have ever been minus 20 minutes on time of possession in the first half.

The notion that the Broncos are not physical enough to play in the Pac-10 should be permanently dispelled by now.

Nearly a pick on the next play, and then Masoli tries to take on two Broncos. He won’t last 12 more games if he tries that often. Sacked to bring up fourth down & 13, with the clock down to 5 :20.

It will be interesting to see how the Pac-10 responds.

The new commissioner was there tonight, and that brawl won’t be what he wants in the effort to improve the Pac-10’s image.

I suspect they will wait to see what the Ducks do, but it’s been a while since I’ve seen something like that in/after a Pac-10 game. And they will want to make sure it doesn’t happen again soon. They don’t like to see touchdowns celebrated as being too emotionally charged. It will be very interesting for everyone to see how this shakes out.
