Riley Remarks, Monday Morning Edition
Coach Mike Riley had a few observations to share after this morning's practice, starting with an update on freshman receiver Marcus Wheaton, who was absent from practice.
It's clerical stuff, with the (eligibility) clearinghouse. Not a matter with grades, and he should be back within a day, maybe even tonight. Just clerical stuff.
With Ryan McCants still recovering from his knee injury, the subject of the backup running back position, and the battle between Jovan Stevenson and Ashton Jefferson has been closely watched all season.
It's been a close competition, and Jordan (Jenkins) is right in there as well. In all probability, (between Stevenson and Jefferson) one will redshirt, and one will play. The special teams impact they can make will probably determine which.
Another Jordan from West Salem, redshirt receiver Jordan Bishop, continues to impress as well, though Riley has listed Casey Kjos as the starter early on.
It's close (regarding the competition to replace Shane Morales as the slot receiver). Right now, if I had to say, I'd say a rotation going on there, where both play, is probable.
Finally, with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers having a bye, Yvenson Bernard has been at practice, which raised another question about the running back situation, and rotations too. "Would Yvenson start for this team?"
Yes! We would find a way to play him, like they are doing in Winnipeg, where they are rotating him with the leading rusher in that league. We would definately get him the ball!
Wouldn't that give Jerry Glanville something to think about!
