Upgrade or Downgrade? - Left Tackle
Our look at the departed starters continues today, shifting to the offensive line and the hole left by Andy Levitre at Left Tackle. Levitre, a second round pick of the Buffalo Bills, started three years on the line for Oregon State and has been awarded all-conference honors since his sophomore year. He was named to several all-America teams last season-- he played both right and left tackle over the course of his career at OSU.
Last Year:
This Year:
Remmers started seven games last season at right tackle before Tavita Thompson returned to the starting lineup for the Arizona State game.

Remmers is solid and although I’m going to vote Downgrade on this one, my heart tells me that he’s going to prove that wrong. He’s proven himself on the field and while he’s not at Levitre’s level it certainly doesn’t mean he can’t get to that point this season. The off-season is long and Cav beats the crap out of those guys.
"The brownies,'' Fernandez said after the game. "The brownies are good for me to make three-points.''

I'm with you there... he definitely has the work ethic,
otherwise I don’t think he’d be here in the first place. He filled some big shoes last year when Tavita had to sit down, hopefully he can do the same in absence of Levitre.

Stupid
This upgrade downgrade thing is stupid. How can you compare someone who has finished a career at osu to someone who has not? Nothing like making the new guy feel welcomed here.
We can compare them
Because they’ll be playing the same positions. Who else should we compare Remmers to? He definitely has big shoes to fill, heck, he is replacing a guy who was drafted in the second round and will likely have a long NFL career. If anything it’s a challenge, and you know that Remmers is well aware of the guy he is replacing. We’re not bashing these guys here. This is what I said yesterday regarding the age differences:
For example, with the Stroughter/Catchings debate this morning, it was somewhat difficult because Catchings is entering his junior year and Stroughter was a senior last year. My stance is as follows: take the age differences into account, and weigh whether you think the incoming players will progress at a higher rate than the outgoing players did.
Sixty days until football. We need to keep ourselves occupied somehow, right?

I also think it will be interesting (and it is my intention)
to revisit these posts at the end of the year and see how the season went compared to how we thought it would go for these players.

Definitely downgrade
I think Remmers will be good, but Levitre was the best left tackle the Beavers have seen in years.
I miss CV3000
My thoughts exactly
It’s not often an upgrade when your old guy was the #1 guard in the NFL draft. Maybe Jake should put a “about the same” option?
I support Takimoto in his effort to support Roger Kieschnick in his quest to becoming the best Kieschnick ever to play professional baseball.
