2009-2010 Men's Basketball Schedule Released

From the release:

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Entering their 60th season at legendary Gill Coliseum and fresh off a CBI championship, the Oregon State men's basketball team will host 17 home games to highlight the 2009-10 schedule released by head coach Craig Robinson on Friday. The Beavers will play 15 regular season home games in addition to two exhibition contests, to be announced at a later date.

"There is a lot of excitement surrounding the team heading into this season and we're thrilled to be playing 17 games in front of a great crowd," Robinson said. "Last year, the atmosphere in Gill Coliseum during Pac-10 play and the CBI was electric and it helped us do some things that nobody expected. The support we receive at home this year could make this team a special one."

The 2009-10 season opens with a trip to Lubbock, Texas, for the Duel in the Desert, hosted by Texas Tech. The Beavers will play three games in the tournament, opening with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday, Nov. 13. Oregon State will also face South Dakota (Nov. 14) before a meeting with Big 12 Conference member Texas Tech to close out the tournament on Sunday, Nov. 15.

Oregon State then returns to Gill Coliseum for the regular-season home opener as the Beavers host Sacramento State on Saturday, Nov. 21, at 12:00 p.m.

One of the highlights of the 2009-10 schedule follows as the Beavers will return to Washington, D.C., when Oregon State squares off with George Washington on Saturday, Nov. 28.

Including the game against Texas Tech, Oregon State will face a trio of Big 12 Conference schools as the Beavers host Colorado in the Big 12 - Pac-10 Conference Hardwood Series on Friday, Dec. 4, before the Beavers travel to Nebraska on Sunday, Dec. 13.

Non-conference dates for the Beavers also include home contests with Cal State Bakersfield (Dec. 6), Mississippi Valley State (Dec. 19), Fresno State (Jan. 26) and Seattle (Jan. 6) as well as a trip to Chicago, Ill., to face Illinois-Chicago on Wednesday, Dec. 16.

Here's how I'm looking at the non-conference

Easy Wins-Texas A&M Corpus Christi, South Dakota, Sacramento State, Cal State Bakersfield, MVSU, and Seattle

Probable Wins-Texas Tech, George Washington, Illinois-Chicago, and Fresno State

Tough Games-Colorado, Nebraska

We could go either 10-2, 11-1, or 12-0 in non-conference play.

Thoughts?

Hard to tell with so many new faces.

If the frosh come to play, then I say we’re looking at 11-1 or 12-0 which is pretty exciting. This team needs to play with the momentum gained from the end of the season last year. If they can hit the ground running and not start off slow and unsure (this goes for the football team too!) then they can take care of that non-conf. slate pretty easily I think.

GW, T. Tech and Nebraska scare me the most.

I think this year I do season tickets.

I agree

It all depends on the freshman. I hear they are supposed to be great though so that’s a good sign.

I still decided to have Football season tix instead of Basketball. Very tough choice.

Football home slate sucks. I’ll go to most games but the season ticket for basketball will be fun—you can buy a weekend season ticket too which is what I’d need to do.

But they are fun to go to

I mean, I hope we pack Gill every night but realisticlly we’ll only get 5,000 for some of those games.

In Football, you’ve got 40,000 fans going nuts. Plus, Football is an all day experience. Basketball is two hours. I guess it’s just personal preference.

I hear you on that. Football games are fun and I’ll probably go to all of them, I just won’t buy the season ticket. Instead I’ll go game by game and find tickets dependent on the game. I usually get to an away game as well, so we’ll see.

For hoops I want to be at every Friday, Saturday or Sunday game I can. I’m excited about these new kids. The SI piece on Roberto Nelson that ran this week got me all worked up about this coming season and our incoming talent.

Yeah

That makes sense. I usually only get to one B-Ball and Baseball game a year, but I’m making sure that changes.

I’m horrible about baseball games but go to the Portland games and get down to Corvallis once or twice. Basketball, even when it has been painful, has always been a draw for me. I’m crazy like that.

I love Basketball too

I’m just more of a listen to Mike arker or watch the games on tv type of guy. But like I said, that should change this year. I can’t wait for B=Ball season.

I for one am really excited about the prospects of this upcoming team

We only lost Rickey Claitt, and gain arguable two of the biggest recruits for this team in a LOOOONG time. The recruiting class was top 20, and we have a decent non-conference schedule. This team is looking at a shot at the tourney, with NIT almost a definite. I know people are going to get on my case about that comment, but I really see no reason why we couldn’t go 10-2 non-conference and go 10-8 or 11-7 in conference play this year. At 20-21 wins, if we can get some solid wins over teams like Cal and UCLA, then why not us?

Totally Agree

We are definitely looking at the NIT, if not the NCAA’s. The great part is, it can only get better from here unless Robinson leaves us.

I don't think its unless he leaves us...

Unfortunately, I think its until he leaves us
