Upgrade/Downgrade - Safety

We continue in the secondary, where Al Afalava (36 career starts) ad Greg Laybourn (15) depart. The good news is that Suaesi Tuimaunei has made strides to replace Afalava at free safety, and Lance Mitchell looks like the guy to replace Laybourn, who led OSU in tackles last season with 113.

Last Year:

Al Afalava

#9 / Safety / Oregon St. Beavers

5-11

212

graduated

Greg Laybourn

#44 / Safety / Oregon St. Beavers

5-10

208

graduated

This Year:

Suaesi Tuimaunei

#28 / Safety / Oregon St. Beavers

6-1

208

junior

Lance Mitchell

#10 / Safety / Oregon St. Beavers

6-2

205

sophomore

Other safeties who could be in the mix: Josh LaGrone, Cameron Collins, and Anthony Watkins

I think this one really comes down to experience

We’ll see but I have been impressed over the years how well OSU reloads in the secondary when we lose so much.
