Upgrade/Downgrade - Middle Linebacker

Our Upgrade/Downgrade series stays on the defense today as we shift from the defensive line to linebacker. The Beavers only lose one starter in the linebacking corps... and that's former middle linebacker Bryant Cornell. Cornell, a graduate of The Dalles High School, finished last season with 61 tackles in 13 starts.

David Pa'aluhi enters spring practice as the favorite to replace Cornell in the middle. He's out of Waianae, Hawaii, and lacks physical size, but brings a high level of tenacity and a great athletic ability to the defense. He's a former MMA fighter as well, so you know he's got some big hits up his sleeve.

Last Year:

Bryant Cornell

#41 / Linebacker / Oregon St. Beavers

6-1

233

graduated

This Year:

David Pa'aluhi

#45 / Linebacker / Oregon St. Beavers

5-11

229

sophomore

Other players who could fill time at middle linebacker include Walker Vave and Tony Wilson.

Now it's time to vote!

I voted About the same

I think they are going to be pretty equal when it’s all said and done. I’m excited to see Tony Wilson though. I heard that he’s pretty good.

Will have to wait on Wilson

Wilson suffered a knee injury in spring practice, requiring surgery. It is hoped he will be back by next spring.

Bubba is a stud

Pa’aluhi is a huge upgrade. Cornell couldn’t hit the big backs, although he had the size, look at the tape of the Stanford game. He gets ran over by Gerhart time and time again. Big Upgrade!

I think Pa-aluhi has real potential.

Everything I read about him leads me to believe he has a lot of untapped ability. I like that.
