Fort Worth Regional Recap

The Beavers went 2-2 in the Fort Worth Regional, finishing the season at 37-19. The Beavers were eliminated from the NCAA Tournament after losing to the TCU Horned Frogs on Sunday night. Now let's take a look at Game 1.

In the first game of the regional the Beavers won, 9-8. In the second inning the Beavers got four runs to take a 4-0 lead. During the inning Koa Kahalehoe, Carter Bell, John Tommasini, and Ryan Ortiz scored. The Beavers got their bats going again in the fourth inning, adding three more runs to make the score 7-0. The Aggies added a run in the bottom half of the fourth to make the score 7-1, but the Beavers would get two more runs in the sixth inning to take a eight run lead. TAMU turned up the bats in the seventh inning, scoring four more runs on four hits to make the score, 9-5. In the ninth inning, Kevin Rhoderick gave up a three run homer to make the score 9-8, but the Beavers would hold on to win the game after that. It was Kevin's first home run given up as a Beaver. Sam Gaviglio pitched magnificently for the Beavers, going 5.2 innings and only giving up one run.

The time of game was 3 hours and 35 minutes and the attendance was 2,820. Now let's take a look at Game 2.

In the second game of the regional the Beavers lost, 13-1. The Horned Frogs got things started in the second inning via a two run homer from Chris Ellington to make the score, 2-0. TCU added another run in the third inning to make the score, 3-0. In the fourth inning, the Horned Frogs got another run to make the score 4-0. In the fifth inning, TCU added two more runs to make the score 6-0. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Oregon State finally got on the board with a run to make the score 6-1. The game remained scoreless after that until the ninth inning when TCU score seven runs on seven hits to make the final, 13-1.

The time of game was 3 hours and the attendance was 3,270. Now let's take a look at Game 3.

In the third game of the regional the Beavers won, 13-5. The Beavers got things started in the first inning with six runs on six hits to make the score, 6-0. The Beavers added another run in the second inning off a home run by Ryan Ortiz to make the score, 7-0. In the third inning Oregon State got another run off two hits and an error to make the score, 8-0. In the fifth inning, Oregon State added three more runs on two hits to make the score, 11-0. In the sixth inning, Texas A&M finally got on the board with a solo home run from Joe Patterson to make the score, 11-1. In the seventh inning, Oregon State got another run off three hits to make the score, 12-1. In the eighth inning, Texas A&M got two more runs to make the score, 12-3. In the bottom half of the eighth, Oregon State added yet another run to make the score, 13-3. In the ninth inning, TAMU got two more runs to make the final score, 13-5. Jorge Reyes pitched a complete game for the Beavers.

The time of game was 2 hours and 50 minutes and the attendance was 2,495. Now let's take a look at Game 4.

In the final game of the regional the Beavers lost, 5-4. The Beavers got things staretd in the first inning with a run from Adalberto Santos. Adalberto tripled and then scored to make the game, 1-0. Oregon State added to their lead in the third inning with three runs to make the score, 4-0. TCU cut the Beaver lead to three with a run to make the score, 4-1. In the fifth inning, TCU tied the game up with three runs on four hits to make the score, 4-4. The game would come to an end in the ninth inning, with TCU driving in the game winning run off Kevin Rhoderick to make the final score, 5-4.

The time of game was 2 hours and 55 minutes and the attendance was 3,190.

Overall, I was impressed with the effort during the regional, but it kind of summed up the whole season. Good, but not great. It was definitely a disapointing ending, but I think it will only add fuel to the fire for next season. Hopefully, we won't lose any players or recruits to the draft and have good fall practices.

This season had many high points, so let's remember those before the bad ones.
