2009 CWS: LSU Takes Home The Crown

2009 College World Series Championship Game

Final Score: LSU 11, Texas 4

It looks like Texas will have another second-place trophy to prop open doors around the athletic department facilities.

LSU was crowned the NCAA Baseball National Champion last night after they broke open a 4-4 tie in the top of the sixth inning with a 5-run barage.

Texas managed to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth inning with two runs before LSU fought back.

"We were excited to tie the game up," Texas third baseman Travis Tucker said of the two runs scored Texas scored in the fourth inning.  "They answered back; it was devastating. They got the momentum back, they're a great ballclub."

LSU would go on to cement their victory with insurance runs in both the eighth and ninth innings.

It's the sixth national championship for LSU and the first under head coach Paul Mainieri. LSU ties Texas for the second-most national championships for any school, behind only Southern California's 12 titles. It's also the first national championship for the Tigers since 2000.

"I've dreamt my whole life of having this moment. It's almost surreal," LSU head coach Paul Mainieri said after the game.
