Portland Game Recap

The Beavers defeated the Portland Pilots, 5-1 and improved to 28-12 on the season. The Beavers were riding high with confidence after their series win against Arizona State last weekend. This victory was important because the Beavers got to 28 wins, just two shy of 30. Last year the Beavers had this many wins total and were most likely the next team into the tournament. This year they have reached that mark with 13 games left and have most likely assured themselves a spot in the tournament. Now let's take a look at the game.

Oregon State got things started in the fourth inning with two runs to take a 2-0 lead. In the bottom half of the inning Portland got a solo home run to make the score 2-1. The homer was argued by OSU head coach Pat Casey, saying that the ball was foul. Joe Etzel Field has very small foul poles so it must have been a close call. The Beavers score three runs in the fifth inning to make the score, 5-1. From there the game was scoreless and the Beavers brought in three pitchers in the ninth inning to close the game out.

The time of game was 2 hours and 40 minutes and the attendance was 450.

Next up for the Beavers is a three game series with Washington. The game on Friday is at 6:30 in Safeco Field and will be televised on Comcast Sports Net NW. The game on Saturday is at 2:00 in Husky Ballpark and can be heard on KPAM 860 AM in the Portland area. The game on Sunday is at 1:00 in Husky Ballpark and can also be heard on KPAM. Washington is 21-23 on the season.

The weather for Friday calls for Partly Cloudy. The weather for Saturday calls for Mostly Sunny and the weather for Sunday calls for a Few Showers. It should be a good weekend for baseball in the Emerald City against the red hot Huskies.

                                                                          Go Beavs!
