Arizona State Series Recap

The Beavers went 2-1 against the Sun Devils, improving to 27-12 on the season. The Beavers played great Baseball throughout the weekend but ran into a very tough pitcher on Friday night. Oregon State should get back into the Top 25 this week, and we have improved our status for the NCAA Tournament. Kevin Rhoderick pitched like never before on Sunday, going 2.1 innings giving up zero runs, hits, and walks. K-Rod also had four strikeouts. Now let's take a look at Game 1.

In the first game of the series the Beavers lost, 4-2. The Sun Devils got things started in the first inning with a run to take the lead, 1-0. ASU added on to their lead in the third inning with two runs to take a 3-0 advantage. The Sun Devils scored another run in the fifth inning to make the score, 4-0. The Beavers got two runs in the ninth and brought the tying run to the plate three different times, but it wasn't enough to beat the Sun Devils.

The time of game was 2 hours and 15 minutes and the attendance was 3,130. Now let's take a look at Game 2.

In the second game of the series the Beavers won in dramatic, walk-off fashion, 4-3. The Sun Devils got things started in the third inning with two runs to take a 2-0 lead. Oregon State got the game tied in the fifth inning with two runs but the game stayed scoreless after that until the ninth inning. In the ninth inning, Arizona State got a run to take a 3-2 lead into the bottom half of the ninth. Oregon State got the tying run off of a sac fly, and then Koa Kahalehoe drove in the winning run with a base hit.

The time of game was 3 hours and 20 minutes and the attendance was 2,850. Now let's take a look at Game 3.

In the third game of the series the Beavers won, 10-5. ASU got things started in the second inning with two runs to take a 2-0 lead. They added two more runs in the third inning but Oregon State got one of them back to make the score, 4-1. Both teams scored a run in the fourth inning and Oregon State added one in the fifth to make the score, 5-3. The Beavers got the game tied in the seventh inning with two runs and then they broke the game open in the 8th inning with five runs. Kevin Rhoderick saved the game in the ninth and the Beavers clinched the series win against the number 1 team in the country.

The time of game was 3 hours and 15 minutes and the attendance was 2,855.

Next up for the Beavers is a game at Portland on Tuesday at 5:00 PM. Portland is 22-20 on the season.

The weather on Tuesday calls for Showers. They should be able to get the game in but it might be delayed.

                                                                                          Go Beavs!

All of our remaining games are huge!

Series wins against Washington State and Washington should solidify us in the upper echelon of the conference.

Weren't the last 2 games sellouts?

Seeing your notes (nice job BTW) I thought the weekend series was a sellout? However I see attendance counts of 2,850 on Saturday and 2,855 on Sunday. Is there a Florida elections thing going on here? Were these games not sold out?

I thought the same thing, but mindlessly copied the numbers from the boxscores...

I know weather was a deterrent on Saturday, but it seems like this was short of a sellout. Do you know what the official capacity is now? I’m not even sure of it.

The capacity is 3,000

I heard that it was a sellout but I’m guessing some people were driven away by the weather. I don’t know how on Friday they got 3,130. I just copied the numbers from the box score like Jake did.

There were quite a few empty seats...

The numbers are probably right. Tickets were sold out a few weeks before the game, but then people just didn’t show up—probably due to the rain, and possibly even the swine flu scare in nearby Monmouth. Western Oregon Univeristy actually cancelled some big track meet—it even gave us a little pause-but just for a few seconds! We were mainly thinking PLEASE don’t cancel baseball!!

Oh-and the latest “Gameday” program had a nice little article about the “New” Goss. It states the capacity at nearly 3,300 with the right field bleacher seating included.

Good to know.

I don’t know that I ever read an official attendance number. It must be 3,000 in the grandstand, with 300 more in the right field bleachers (just a guess…). Anyhow, Goss is a spectacular facility, and I’m sure the new rooms underneath are serving the players well.

Yep, about the attendance

Saturday, there were empty seats. The general admission seats were pretty full, but a good amount of people left with the slow offense and the wind was pretty cold at times (never did rain like some seemed worried about). Missed a great ending! Plus it was a good defensive/pitching ball game so come on people it isn’t always about 15 to 12 games!
