Baseball Open Thread: vs. Arizona State, Game 3
At a quick glance, this game seems like one of the biggest of the season so far. A chance to win a series against Arizona State on a Sunday? It's a big opportunity, but the Beavers are going to have to play exceptionally to clinch the series against such a talented team as Arizona State.
The Beavers will go to battle with Jorge Reyes on the mound, who has a realistic chance to be the Beavers' most effective starter of the weekend. Waldron and Peavey both struggled in their outings, so if Jorge is on, he has a chance to give the Beavers a strong start on the hill they they haven't necessarily had in the last two days.
Arizona State will start Jordan Swagerty on the mound. Seth Blair is the usual Sunday starter, but he started last night's game because of the injury to Josh Spence's throwing hand. Swagerty has just one start on the season, but has a 2-1 record with a 3.34 ERA.
First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.

Good start for Reyes and the Beavers in the Top of the 1st
Reyes came out and fell behind the first two hitters in the count… Kipnis got on base with a four pitch walk… but Jorge got a groundout and two K’s to get out of the inning.

Reyes throws the ball over Tommasini's head on a bunt play...
…. and Arizona State gets the early lead. 1-0 Sun Devils, with the bases loaded, no outs.

Interested to see what happens in Stanford, WSU
A win by Stanford and a win by OSU would tie the two teams in the conference

That's about all the runs we can give them
We’re going to have to play near perfect baseball the rest of the way.

Weird schedule next week
We play at three different stadiums. Tuesday at Joe Etzel Field, Friday at Safeco Field, and Saturday and Sunday at Husky Stadium.

Great job by Rhoderick to come in and get a strikeout.
Regardless, too many walks in that inning.
We need some offense now!

ASU makes substitutions like a high school team
They have so many athletes… their left fielder comes into pitch, their pitchers pinch hit, all sorts of stuff like that.

Parker's call of the fly ball scared me...
But here we go… to the bottom of the eighth!

I know
I almost wonder if Murphy’s melodrama backfired a bit. ASU just doing everything wrong right now. Beavs have done a great job hitting though!

Stanford beat WSU
A win today for the Beavs puts us in good Pac-10 standing too. SC and UCLA both in close ones too.

Does that make us tied with UCLA?
I checked it out earlier today and that’s what I thought I figured out. But maybe not

He's around....
He was posting fairly frequently up until the past half inning or so.
Maybe our offense put him to sleep… not sure why that would be the case, though.

For the Beavs offense to break back out like this.
Here’s to hoping this means that the offense is back on track.

Yep, great couple innings by him
Think maybe the tension got a little too overplayed, we all know he’s an intense player. Casey and Murphy will work it out.

Totally hoping that was the traditional OSU slump with the USC and UCLA series and now we have got over the hump and ready to make a big time run at it all now.

We do need the starter pitchers to get back into the groove though.
Peavey and Reyes did not pitch well.

I'm very impressed
Parker seemed to be trying to get him to bite more on the Murphy thing and he really stated things nicely about how Murphy is that type of competitor and that this series is as big, if not bigger, than the Civil War for baseball.
