Baseball Open Thread: vs. Stanford, Game 2
Game 51 - at Stanford - 6 p.m. - Live Stats - Live Audio
I hope everyone's Memorial Day weekend is off to a good start. I'm heading to the beach, so I'll be in and out throughout the weekend, but here's the place to chat if you'll be online during the game.
The Beavers could clinch a series win today, which would be a huge boost heading into Sunday's season finale and Selection Monday. A series win would be great, but a sweep would be fantastic. But... you've gotta win Game 2 before you can start thinking too much about a sweep.

I'm ready to put on my dancing shoes
Anyone else think we’ll clinch it tonight.
Hip Hip, Jorge!

If we play like last night
Pretty good chance. Will be interesting to see how Stanford responds since it sounded like people expected them having to sweep to get into the post-season. Will be interesting to see how our pitching does today following that incredible performance by Gaviglio. By the way just read this from Gaviglio:
“Before the game I was real nervous,” he said. “I felt like I was going to throw up during the national anthem. I was starting to get dizzy in the head.”
Not sure I want the kid to pass out on us ever, but heck if almost getting there is what it takes!
Back to tonight and I’m still anxious about the series and again tonight’s game.

I know they only do this in Omaha
But how awesome would it be if the Beavs won and dogpiled on the pitchers mound at Stanford.

No chance, I wouldn't think
Because I don’t think the Beavers are in a must-win situation… a win doesn’t “get” us anything.
A win tonight would be huge for our post-season chances, though.

Stanford has two triples so far
We need to pull Jorge before it’s to late.

The beavs are getting way to good at leaving people on base
That makes twelve. Average 2 per inning :(
Did I mention we are still down by 2 :(

Ah come on beavs
third strike dropped ball and batter gets to second :(
Shesh
crap. Nygren hits a batter
Bases are now loaded.
Ugh
This has been a weird couple innings
These are the two best teams defensively in the Pac-10, and both teams are making all kinds of mistakes… past balls, wild pitches, throwing errors, etc.

Ryan Gorton now....
What do you guys think… would it be a success to get out of this inning with one run scoring? Or should we expect to get out of the inning unscathed?

Got one back going to bottom of 8
Beavers 6, Stanford 7
Top of 9th
Beavers 6, Stanford 7
We need runs.
Go Beavs
Does this team have something against putting together two good conference games in a row?
That was not a good showing, especially after last night.

Better get the win on Sunday
I don’t want to go into Monday uncertain of our chances.

I agree
I think we are in because of overall record, but I totally agree it will much better to feel 95% certain versus 75%!
Plus, the team needs the W just to have some confidence and momentum going into the post-season.
Plus, I’m getting tired of losing these Pac-10 series!!!
