Beavers Leave No Doubt In Season Finale

Final Score: Oregon State 14, Oregon 4

The game got off to a slow start for the Beavers, but the Beavers amassed all fourteen of their runs during three innings, quickly overtaking the Ducks at Volcano Stadium in Eugene.

Oregon State turned to Greg Peavey on the mound, who threw just over six innings, giving up Oregon's four runs on six hits, while striking out five. Kyle Foster came on in relief of Peavey in the seventh to finish out the frame. He recorded two outs in just his third appearance of the season.

Nick Stiltner pitched in the final two innings of the game, making his fourth appearance of the year. He didn't give up a hit in his innings of work, striking out one.

The Ducks got on the board early with a run in the second inning coming off a ground ball by Sean Potkay. The Beavers would answer in the third with three consecutive singles that scored Michael Miller on a hit by Adalberto Santos.

The Beavers would then begin to blow the game open in the fourth, scoring five runs on four hits.

It was more of the same for the Beavers in the sixth inning, as the Beavers added eight runs to their 6-2 lead. Joey Wong led the team with four hits, and Michael Miller, Stefen Romero, Jared Norris, and Adalberto Santos each had two in the game.

The Beavers would go on to win by a score of 14-4.

As much as I like winning

I hope this game does a lot more than push more ticket sales in for the season and show the Ducks are not playing very well right now (and need to recruit some hitters). I very much hope this showing on offense carries over to the Stanford series, and last night’s game is the spark.

Personally, all in all, I’m not sure why these last two games happened, especially this one. Again, I have no big issue with beating UO but seemed a bit overkill to play each other six times this year and I’m still a bit concerned these last two mid-week games are a distraction from a tough road conference series.

But yes, I’m glad to see Wong, Santos, and Romero getting the bats going. Going to need them, but at the same time a bit worrying to see Ortiz go a little cold.

Anyway, grumpy cynicism aside for the moment and Congrats Beavers for owning the 2009 Civil War series.

oh, and

Very nice to see Peavey have a solid outing for it has been a rough last couple months for him.
