Baseball Open Thread: vs. WSU, Game 3

It's 80 degrees.... it's senior day... and the Beavers have an opportunity to overcome a rough Friday loss to win a Pac-10 series against Washington State-- all around, a great day for baseball.

Tanner Robles got the start on Friday and was rattled in just three innings of work, but freshman Sam Gaviglio shut down the Cougars in Saturday's Game 2 to force the decisive Game 3. Gaviglio made just his fourth start of the year, his first in Pac-10 play, and earned his team-leading eighth win of the season.

Although it hasn't been published yet, Jorge Reyes is the likely starter for the Beavers in today's game. However, because he's struggled in his past few starts, the coaching staff might look to switch things up, like they did by promoting Gaviglio to a weekend starter role on Saturday.

Like I mentioned above, today is senior day at Goss Stadium, where the following players will be honored:

  • John Wallace
  • Koa Kahalehoe
  • Kyle Foster
  • Mark Grbavac
  • Logan Boyd
Hats off to the seniors-- let's get this done for them!

First pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

Joey Wong not in the starting lineup

Hopefully he’s not injured. We’re going to need him come tournament time.

Don't think he's hurt...

Carter Bell has stepped up recently. He was at second yesterday…

I don’ t think we would have scored a run in that inning without Bell’s steal. Beavers doing all the little things right early…

What an awful game

Giving up a four run lead is horrible. We’re going to have to win four out of our last five to make the tourney. What a waste of a season. At least this year we won’t be arguing if they leave us out.

I just don’t get it. Starting to think not so good thoughts about this year and I was very up on the year up until now. The team has a ton of talent, but really has done nothing in the Pac-10 the end of the season with the ASU series win in there as the only bright spot of late.

Overall record should get us in though, don’t you think (well unless we lose a bunch more)? Need to take the Stanford series though, for even if we made it in and lost that series I don’t see how the team could recover to make a run.

Guess we’ll really see what the team is made of now.

You said it.

I just can’t quite figure this team out. They show flashes of really good stuff and then you have days like today and last week at Washington. Really frustrating being a fan at the moment.

I would love to be a fly on the wall in Casey’s office.

Really frustrating being a fan at the moment.

No kidding, I go to the game on Saturday and they basically were in control the entire game, even when WSU closed it and tied it still felt like OSU had things well within control. Come home with a nice winning fan glow and then watch online/listen to the game today and it just deflates the whole deal. But you mentioned Casey and I’m sure the team and coaches are even more pissed than I am! At least I can go back to my day job and not worry about it and it isn’t my day job to win the games!
