5. Oregon State: Sure, the Beavs will probably make me look dumb — they almost always do. And they’re certainly in the group of teams that could finish second/third because of the veteran QBs, the Rodgers brothers, plus Mike (Riley) and Mark (Banker). But goodness, they lost a lot of frontline players in Stroughter, Levitre, Butler, Norris and the CBs.

Of course I think they will be higher
But heck, of course I would think my team will be great!
But at the same time I have to admit some good points made here. I personally think people will step into the vacant positions listed above like they always seem to do for Riley, but as an outside observer I can see the points made. I think really Stroughter will be the difficult one to replace because he was so versatile in being a deep receiving threat, over the middle threat, running out of the sweep threat, and returning punts. Going to be hard, if not impossible, to find one player who can fill all those roles. But if we get a couple players who can take up the different roles I’ve listed it all should be fine.

Last year's preseason polls
had the Beavers ranked more lowly than this year. The Beavers had tremendous improvement through the course of the year in 2008 until injuries hit us pretty badly.
No one predicted before last season that the Beavers would have 7 players drafted by the NFL at the end of the season. Riley and crew are great teachers and the improvement which Beavers teams should through each season is proof of that.
This year’s schedule allows for breaking in new folks while still acquiring some wins. I am bullish on the prospect for three non-conference wins this season. Having said that, the conference road schedule is brutal. We shall see.
Personally, I feel like OSU will be stronger at QB than USC. Much better experience going for them.
