Baseball Open Thread, Game 3

The Beavers are simply looking to salvage a win in Game 3 today against USC, as they've already lost the series. Here's the pitching matchup:

RHP Jorge Reyes (5-1, 3.43) vs. RHP Robert Stock (3-1, 2.31)

The Beavers really need to come out hot offensively against Stock, who they saw throw in a relief role in Game 1. The Beavers can't afford being swept by the Trojans at this stage of the Pac-10 season. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.

Krueter has been getting booed since the fourth inning incident on Friday....

I’m curious to how long Stock will go… he threw 33 pitches on Friday.

Error on De Pinto... OSU gets the early lead

Looks like the breaks might be going our way today, so far at least.

Yeah

But I’m able to forgive them if we score four runs.

Sure, but it's only the first inning.

There’s a lot of baseball left.

couldn't resist

Don’t get me wrong though, I expect nothing less than double digits for runs and hits today!

But will say that Parker has been going on about the “gift” aspect of the runs last inning, but another way to look at it is the Beavs hit it aggressively and forced the issue. We had hits and solid ones like a double RBI by Romero (nice bounce back for him!).

I also don’t go as far as USC has nothing to prove by winning today, if they get blown out it does mean something.

Reyes is on fire, he has really stepped up lately as a leader I think.

Totally Agree

That USC has something to prove today. He makes it sound like that if you win the first two games, the last game doesn’t matter.

by ConnorOSU on Apr 19, 2009 12:42 PM PDT up reply actions

totally

I know this might sound like I’m trying to reach for things, but the Beavs should have won those first two games in many ways and if USC doesn’t play well today it does make the two wins look like a bit like gifts.

Now of course SC can claim the series and that is VERY important in conference play and of course they did win, but it is also about the season and your mind frame going into the final run.

Like you said OSU teams will slump a bit sometime, and the last two games looked that way for the Beavs.

Waldron's been a bit shaky

He’ll have to get that worked out by the time the tourney begins.

by ConnorOSU on Apr 19, 2009 12:51 PM PDT up reply actions

hmm

Yep, that is true forgot about some of the struggles he has had and agree about tournament time. But I guess I was thinking he did struggle but did go seven and really did keep the team in the game Friday and seemed to settle down in the later innings.

Well

Not the best of wins ever, and lost the series, but still got to take it.

The Beavs need to find their bats quickly, UCLA in LA is not going to be easy either.

ASU looks to be about to sweep Stanford so going to be a few games behind but still not too far behind them.

Oh, did I mention the Beavs need to get their bats back?

Go Beavs!

-RVM

by rvm on Apr 19, 2009 2:54 PM PDT reply actions

that was a weird game

I thought Casey took Reyes out 2 batters too late. But I love what I have seen from Jorge recently.

K Rhod looked great.

And the final play was really weird, their pitcher threw it off of the 3rd base umpire and it took a weird hop away from the USC players.

Things also got a little chippy today again, as Ortiz got pissed at the USC Shortstop holding up play by talking to the pitcher after Wallace got that leadoff double. Then once K Rhod struck that last batter out he was yelling at the USC Dugout as he was walking off of the field.
