Around SBN: Two Minutes Of Thunder Basketball Wins The Game

Baseball Open Thread: vs. BYU, Game 2

The Beavers pulled out a 7-6 win last night in the first of a two game midweek series with the BYU Cougars, and will look to sweep the series tonight at 5:00 p.m.

Last night, the Beavers scored five runs in the second inning to take a sizeable lead, then the Cougars came back with runs in the fourth, sixth, and seventh innings to make things interesting. Kevin Rhoderick came on for the save in the ninth-- he slammed the door nicely with a seven pitch save that preserved OSU's one run lead. Share you opinion on Rhoderick in today's poll, found below, if you haven't already.

With a win, the Beavers move to 22-7 on the young season, which must be some sort of record, or close to it. I'll look into that... but there's still a lot of baseball left.

Here's the place for you to chat about tonight's game. I'll be away for most of the beginning of the game, but should be returning home in time to catch the final two or three innings.

PS: Seems like I've been living in the darkness here on BtD for awhile, so I did a little bit of freshening up on my profile yesterday... check it out... you may be surprised. And while I'm thinking about it, you can add us on Twitter, if you haven't already.

8-4 now

BYU making a bit of a run.

You know as much as I appreciate Mike Parker’s announcing his doom and gloom view does get old at times. Sure they are a bit back into it, but golly you would think the barn door is open and the cows have been all run over on the Interstate… Beavs aren’t playing stunningly awesome right now but still up 8-4 with six outs left for BYU. Parker just grates on me at times, like his love of opposing pitchers does get a bit old too. Otherwise he’s great, sorry maybe it is just me at times.

I see where you're coming from.

I think he looks at things a lot like a coach does, not so much as a fan. He’s thinking more about the mistakes than what the team has to do to finish things off. Not that a coach doesn’t think about those things, but errors, pitching mistakes, etc. definitely grate on coaches like that.

yep, I agree, but still

I don’t want Jerry Allen or Joe Giansante my team can do no wrong (exaggeration a tad yes, but you know what I mean with UO announcers), but I just think Parker goes the opposite way at times (in all of his sports announcing).

I mean he is the voice of the Beavs and gets nicely excited when needed, just done this to me for years now.

okay, but I will add

It does actually sum up Beaver Nation a bit too, in that we as a whole do seem to get doom and gloom a bit too much. Again, I don’t want unconditional support, but at times things aren’t as bad as we all make it out to be.

I see what you're saying, but I'm not feeling it so much right now.

He may be down over the course of a few innings now and then, but I thought things got really bad last year towards the middle and end of the season when the Beavers began dropping games they needed to win.

But then, this guy had to broadcast Beaver basketball over the last few years, so maybe that’s where he developed the negative tone.

True about last year

I agree about right now, I don’t know why maybe some of his stuff in the Cal series when I thought he should have given a bit more love to the OSU pitchers versus the Cal ones. He just does that to me sometimes with the hold on it looks very bad now you can’t count the other team out.

Maybe I’m just tired, he’s giving Nygren the love right now!

And of course now bases are loaded with one out, so I could be made to pay, Parker style!

Sweet!

They only loaded up to get the double play!

Double play... BEavers win!!

I was thinking that Parker could be right… RVM, I was totally feeling you down the stretch there. It sounded as if we were winning by one or two.

Nice win! And two tough games to pull out schedule wise

Oh, and I know he tries to keep it interesting, that’s his job, I’m done knocking on MP. Next! Where’s ArbyOSU!

Nice sweep for the Beavers

We took care of buisiness against a hot BYU game.

I'll wrap this baby up tonight, then we move on to USC.

If anyone would like to drop some knowledge on what you’re thinking about the team, the BYU series, the upcoming USC series or anything else, the FanPost section is calling your name.

I'll go do a series recap

I’m thinking about going to the game on Saturday and if I do I’ll get a FanPost up about it.

I'll be there as well.

But I’m always interested to hear other’s thoughts. Should be some good weather.

Curious

If anyone is still around this thread!

Just wondering how close that last double play was since it sounded like BYU thought he was safe. Anyone watched the video and could tell?

by rvm on Apr 14, 2009 7:48 PM PDT reply actions

Yeah...

It was closer than it probably could have been. It was just a typical looking double play to me… the play was close at first, but that’s how it usually is.

you serious?

or just messing with us?

If true that sounds like the quickest going after the game Burgerville I’ve heard of in awhile.
