Reyes doing a decent job

However, lots of hits, a couple of hit batters and a couple of balks are keeping things tense.

by plcdude on Mar 8, 2009 11:11 AM PDT up reply actions

He's doing enough right now

But given up some extra base hits (I think a couple doubles and a triple). So I would breathe easier if he got away from given up those.

by rvm on Mar 8, 2009 11:12 AM PDT up reply actions

Yep

What was nice though is he only gave up one run innings and nothing big.

by plcdude on Mar 8, 2009 11:51 AM PDT up reply actions

Not the best way I guess

But we’ll take it.

I’m thinking we are pretty deep into their bullpen now and hoping we can take advantage of that.

-RVM

by rvm on Mar 8, 2009 11:52 AM PDT up reply actions

You would think.

They must be on there 5th or 6th pitcher.

by plcdude on Mar 8, 2009 11:53 AM PDT up reply actions

Yep

And also fourth game into this invitation too so you would think pitching depth will win out today.

-RVM

by rvm on Mar 8, 2009 11:55 AM PDT up reply actions

that was great!

Ninth batter and now the top of the order up with bases loaded and one out. With the lead.

That's okay

I’m more interested in finishing strong on D, some insurance runs would have been nice, but up three with only needing three outs, well they should finish it

He needs a strong showing here

Been off this season, a 1-2-3 with a SO or two would be awesome for him.

-RVM

by rvm on Mar 8, 2009 12:26 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah.

I have been thinking he has been off a little too.

by plcdude on Mar 8, 2009 12:27 PM PDT up reply actions

Not a bad game to end the invitational series and to end 3-1 for the week

One tough but pretty good loss to a good team and some good overall wins this week.

Negative takeaway = Pitching, and I agree with what others have said already and we need to tighten this up, especially with the starters. But on the bright side Rhoderick had a great closing inning today. Looked like the old K-rod.

Positives = Offense looked good when we needed it, like today that four run inning in response to TTU’s two run inning was excellent and that is a championship type of offensive response. Sure would have been nice to have a bit more against Oklahoma State (but probably would have been if they didn’t beam out our hot hitter in Wallace! :) ), but still five runs is not bad against a very good pitcher and some solid relievers.

Another positive was the defense this week was very solid I thought. Yesterday’s game against UC Riverside really was good on defense and that side of things really won the game for us.

Last positive is even with some questions about pitching we are off to a very good start to the year and if we keep this up should be going into the Pac-10 part of the season pretty strong.

Long ways to go, but seeing some nice things so far.
