What to expect from tomorrow’s National Signing Day

Tomorrow is the biggest day of the college football offseason: National Signing Day. It's hard for me to get excited about recruits until the fax machine starts humming in the Valley Football Center, and today is that day.

What reasons do we have to get excited about this year's recruiting class? Most of the recruiting experts have Oregon State's class ranked seventh or eighth in the confrerence, and anywhere around fifieth nationally.

But that's right where we always are, and it's worked out just fine in the past.

Yvenson Bernard, one of the most prolific running backs in Oregon State history, was a two-star athlete coming out of high school. Keenan Lewis, who started 47 games for the Beavers, was a one-star cornerback out of high school. Victor Butler was also a one-star recruit.

The reason it's hard for me to get excited about signing day is that most of our best players as seniors were not highly-touted recruits. As long as the coaches bring in good charecter guys who are willing to work hard in the weight room and be coached up by our great staff, I'm happy with getting a recruiting class full of one, two, and three star guys. Which is essentially what we have.

If everything goes as planned, here are the players who are expected to commit to Oregon State tomorrow:

  • Joshua Andrews, OL: Ontario, CA
  • Michael Beaton, OL: Dallas, OR
  • John Braun, OL, (West) Albany, OR
  • Kevin Cummings, WR: Encino, CA
  • Dax Dilbeck, QB: Edmond, OK
  • Michael Doctor, LB: Tulsa, OK
  • Reggie Dunn, WR: Compton, CA
  • Grant Enger, OL: Seattle, WA
  • Obum Gwacham, WR: Chino Hills, CA
  • Micah Hatfield, WR: Lake Oswego, OR
  • Kyreli Hudson, ATH: Vancouver, WA
  • Ashton Jefferson, ATH: Alvin, TX
  • Josh Kaiwi, DE: Anchorage, AK
  • Jack Lomax, QB: Lake Oswego, OR
  • Sean Martin, DB: Corona, CA
  • Michael Phillipp, OL: San Bernadino, CA
  • Jordan Poyer, DB: Astoria, OR
  • Rashad Reynolds, ATH: San Fernando, CA
  • Reuben Robinson, LB: Chandler, AZ
  • Mana Rosa, DE: Wailuku, HI
  • Zeke Sanders, ATH: Santa Cruz, CA
  • Cory Smith, DB: Visalia, CA
  • Tyler Thomas, OL: Kalispell, MT
  • Cody Vaz, QB: Stockton, CA
  • Markus Wheaton, ATH: Chandler, AZ
I'll be in attendance at tomorrow night's Recruiting Dinner, so stay tuned late tomorrow night for a recap of the event.

Should be a good day.
