Oregon State Prepares for 331st Civil War
Just a week after completing a season sweep of both of the Bay Area teams, the Beavers will return to action on Sunday when they'll do battle with Oregon in the 331st Civil War game at MacArthur Court in Eugene.

The Beavers, who have won three straight games and seven of their last ten, beat the Ducks 57-54 earlier this season at Gill Coliseum. In that game, the Beavers overcame an early 12-point deficit and a 35-30 halftime defecit to overcome the Ducks in the second half.
Oregon point guard Tajuan Porter, who had 19 points and five three-pointers in the first half, was held to just three points in the final half. The Beavers outscored the Ducks 27-19 in the second half, holding off the Ducks down the stretch to win by three.
Oregon State's win in the first Civil War gave them their fourth Pac-10 win in the first half of the conference schedule. A win tomorrow would give the Beavers their eighth Pac-10 win, and their fourth win in the second half of the Pac-10 season. A win would also move the Beavers to 8-8 in the Pac-10, a .500 winning percentage, with two games remaining on the regular season schedule.
The Beavers, who sit at 7-8 in Pac-10 play, have already made a seven game improvement from a year ago. That margin gives Craig Robinson's team the fifth-best single-season turnaround of all time. Oregon currently sits at number one on the list for their 10-win improvement between the 2000-01 and 2001-02 seasons
Oregon State's 1-3-1 zone defense, which has been wreaking havoc on opponent offenses throughout the season, will need to be effective against the Ducks. Oregon plays at the fastest tempo of any team in the Pac-10 except for Washington, and they'll be looking to push the ball and take as many shots as possible. Oregon State, who plays at the fifth slowest pace in the nation, will be looking to do exactly the opposite: pass the ball, set screens, make back-cuts, and hit open shots.
The Ducks are led by Tajuan Porter, who is averaging 15 points per game and shooting 38 percent from three-point range this season. LeKendric Longmire, the sophomore from Mississippi, is scoring ten points per game. Freshman center Michael Dunnigan scores nine per game.
The Beavers are led by Cavin Haynes, but will need other guys to play well in order to beat the Ducks in Mac Court. Haynes averages 15.5 points per game, but Rickey Claitt's assists, Seth Tarver's steals, and Roeland Schaftenaar's leadership at the top of the offense will likely be the difference on Sunday night.
Game-time is scheduled for 7:00 PM tomorrow night on FSN HD.

and you choice of the picture
also tells a story of how the Beavs can walk (run?) away with a W, and if we can get a similar bench performance as the team put up against Cal we will be able to do something that other teams have done against us and wear down the Ducks with our depth. Wow, I can’t believe I actually had the confidence to mention that, but it has been a “wow” type of season so far.

No doubt... when our entire team is on, we're tough
But when it’s one guy trying to carry the load, it just doesn’t work.

Yep
I think we can easily stay with them when the main players on doing well, especially if Haynes and Schaftenaar are on on offense and Tarver is on on defense (as you already noted), but if the bench is playing as well (or even fairly close to as well) as the Cal game I don’t think UO can stay with the team.
The Ducks did show some more nice depth last weekend against Stanford, but still not like the level of play I thought OSU brought to the Cal game.
I mean things happen and it hasn’t been like this all season, but one thing is that Robinson is really good at getting people to step up if someone else if off. At this point in time I also say coaching advantage goes to the Beavs, which is another thing I haven’t been able to say for awhile now.

I like our confidence as well...
We’ve won seven Pac-10 games so far this season… that’s six more than the Ducks. I’m sure their win over Stanford felt great, but they’re still 1-14, which has to be demoralizing. Plus, they already dropped the first CW game. But this one is at Mac… where anything can happen.

Very true!
But one thing that I have to put very high on the impressive list for this season is that the team has won on the road (Stanford, Cal, and WSU) So like you say they know how to do it. Going to be a hostile setting for sure, but the offensive scheme (along with solid defensive play) really is a good one for slowing things down and hence quieting down the home crowd.

That is, if we execute
They play fast, we play slow. I’m hoping we don’t go run-and-gun with them, even if we knock down shots.

This game is also important
To keep the momentum going into the trip to LA, which I think are both winnable games with the way USC and UCLA are playing right now.

And if we want to talk post-season for a minute...
I believe the Beavers need to be .500 to qualify for the NIT or CBI or whatever. The tricky thing is that unless we win the Pac-10 tournament we will come out of there with a loss. So if the Beavers beat the Ducks they’re a game over .500…. then they need a win in LA, and maybe another win in LA at the Pac-10 tourney.

I'm not there yet
But I think if they win out and get a win or two in the tournament they should get an invite to the NIT.

Arizona falls to 8-8
If the Beavers can beat the Ducks on Sunday, they will be 8-8 in conference play. This would put them in a tie for fifth place in the conference and give the Beavers a real shot at a bye in the first round of the Pac-10 tournament.
If the Beavers beat the Ducks and the Trojans, they are almost guaranteed a bye in the first round of the Pac-10 tournament….and if they get lucky they will play Cal in their first game.
That's crazy... but it's tough to beat a team three times in the same season.

Fifth through Eighth Logjam
Arizona, USC, OSU and WSU are all fighting for seeds in the Pac-10 tournament. At this point, the Beavers can finish as high as fifth and as low as eighth. Wild times. The Beavers can really help themselves by beating the Ducks on Sunday.
Beat the Ducks and be tied for fifth going into the last weekend of the regular season. Wow! Still the Beavers can end up in eighth place, so they have quite a bit to play for on Sunday.
