Now batting for the Beavers...

I'm grateful to have a job where I can get away with putting on headphones and tuning in to the Joe Beaver Show podcast (if they ever actually post them) or to early broadcasts of sports events.

Today, the Beavers are playing baseball in Tempe, vs. the Huskies of Northern Illinois University.  Ron Callan (who does an okay job, but makes you realize how good Mike Parker really is) says that the weather is sunny and in the low 80s.  Funny that the Beavs went from snow and ice last weekend to sunny and warm.

The change in the weather doesn't seem to be adversely affecting their play.  As I type this, the third inning has just finished, and the Beavers are leading 12-2.  Wow.  GO BEAVS!!!

Bottom of the 6th...

Gregg Peavy started to get tired and gave up a run to NIU. He has now been replaced by Nick Stiltner, a redshirt freshman from Marist HS in Eugene. We must have signed him before the Ducks brought back baseball, hehehe.

21-3

This is not even that close.

Folsom = 4 for 5 with 7 RBIs! Looks like we might have some offensive minded players this year. Nice to see different people stepping up.

A new record!

NIU has walked 16 batters so far… a school record you’d like to forget. Kind of like an 0-18 basketball season.

Stiltner

Pitching strong.

Okay as I type that he walks one, but still some good throwing so far.

Getting a little sloppy now on defense

But being up 21 – 5 will do that to you.

Gotta squelch this comeback!

Heh. Sounds like everybody is getting in the game. That’s good.

Also sounds like we had a bad hop and a ball hit perfectly between two defenders, so I don’t know that we were really that sloppy…

good

watching on the GameTracker so can’t tell

Yes about getting people in. Somebody named Chiarelli just hit a double for us! Sorry Mike, just joking about being an unknown, but it is good to see the bench getting in there and showing some depth too.

Plus this game was over in the third inning and has gone on forever with the walks, then a ton of second teamers in there for both teams. I totally understand that the focus is not quite there right now for either team.

23-3

Apparently there is no mercy rule in college baseball, huh? :)

We might have to put the equipment manager and the ball boy in soon…

Uh oh...

9th inning comeback. 23-7 now.

Final

OSU 23 runs on 20 hits with 3 errors
NIU 7 runs on 10 hits and 1 error

Pretty much over when the Beavs rattled off nine runs in the 2nd inning.

Tomorrow is Missouri and then Arizona State. I’m very interested to see what the Beavs will be bringing to those games. The last two games have been awesome in terms of offense for the Beavs.
