Today's Poll - The Upcoming Weekend

The last time Oregon State met the Bay Area schools, they swept 'em. But this week, when the Beavers will do battle with Cal and Stanford again, it could be a bit more difficult.

Or perhaps... a lot more difficult.

Sure, Stanford is actually ranked lower in the Pac-10 standings than the Beavers. But the Cardinal, with guys like Anthony Goods, Lawrence Hill, Landry Fields, and Mitch Johnson, are just waiting to pounce on the resurgent Beavers.

Cal, on the other hand, who recently just won "The Big Game", is riding a three game wave that includes a victory over Jon Brockman and those darn Huskies. The Golden Bears are 8-4 in the conference, with losses to Stanford, OSU, USC, and UCLA.

I would argue that sweeping these two teams again would be extremely difficult, but possible. Also, I think the Stanford game is a lot more winnable, for obvious reasons, but we could easily beat Cal if we contain Jeremy Randle and lose to Stanford if Lawrence Hill becomes a force in the inside unlike he was when the teams met back in January.

What do you think?

Let's root for a win over Stanford

If we beat Stanford on Thursday night, the Beavers will be two games ahead of Stanford with four to play. Each team will have a game at Eugene left. Assuming both Stanford and the Beavers win their games against the Ducks, the Beavers should finish ahead of Stanford in conference play.

Got to be honest

This is a series where I wouldn’t be surprised to see any of the choices above happen.

I noticed that 7 people think we will both beat and lose to Stanford.

Should be an interesting weekend if that prediction comes true.

on a serious note

You going to the games?

If you do make sure to talk about it all. I’m really curious about what type of crowds we get for these last home games. Hope it is a good send off for the team and wish I could make them.

I’m pretty sure I’m going on Saturday.

Went to the CW and to ASU so far this year. For 15 bucks a ticket it’s well worth it. Crowds have been nice. Win (UO) or Lose (ASU) I’ve had fun. I think the crowds should be good but not great. Maybe 7 or 8 thousand? I think a sell out will be a push but who knows, hopefully people will surprise me.

Putting me to shame getting there more often! And you have further to travel (Portland right?). But just not in the cards for me and would like to be there Saturday, but 7,000 wouldn’t be all that bad, still can generate some noise, but yes it would be nice to get closer to 9,000. Maybe a nice win against Stanford will get people out Saturday.

If you make it be sure to let us know how it was.

Tell you what, if I make it there I’ll actually put fresh batteries in my camera this time around and post some pics AND tell you how it was.

Anyway, yeah, the NE Portland to Corvallis drive isn’t that bad. I’m used to it. Leaving Corvallis after a basketball or baseball game is SO much easier than after football that it seems like a breeze. Plus, I get back into town with enough time to go score some drinks and late night food, so my saturday is pretty much complete.

I think a win against stanford will boost attendance considerably. This IS the season home finale though, so maybe that’ll inspire those who haven’t been out to see the first year of the Craig Robinson Show in person to get down to Gill.

$15?

I looked at osubeavers.com yesterday, and the only option it gave me for tickets to the Stanford game was chairback seats at $25 a pop. That’s a little steep… but I would buy two at $15!!! Is the website just crap for getting tickets?

by sangdorange on Feb 18, 2009 3:04 PM PST up reply actions

I get mine in person. Other than the CW, there’s no special pricing. I walked up and literally paid 15 cash per ticket. These were upper level, unobstructed view. I don’t know if the website doesn’t post them online but those are the tickets I’ll buy if I head down this weekend. Screw chairbacks, not worth the dough.
