Oregon State vs. Fresno State - 5:30pm, Gill Coliseum - TV on FSN

Craig Robinson and Oregon State can make history tonight with a win against Fresno State-- it would be the program's 1,600th win, and put them in a elite class of only 15 other programs who have accomplished the feat.

But more importantly, the Beavers need this win in order to climb back above .500 and clean up some issues before Pac-10 play starts December 31 with a showdown with Washington, a team expected to be a high seed in the NCAA tournament this season.

The Beavers recently bounced back from a Chicago road trip which featured two disappointing losses to beat Mississippi Valley State, a team that is now 1-11 and struggling heading into their Southwestern Athletic Conference schedule.

The Beavers should get a stiffer test tonight from Fresno State, which enteres the game at 6-5 on the year. From my research, they seem better than their record indicates. In their last game, they lost to a good Montana team after holding a sizable lead but then going cold, making only one basket in the final nine minutes of the game. Like the Beavers, they have two bad losses this season, one to Seattle and the other to Santa Clara. Oregon State's two bad losses have come to Sacramento State and Illinois-Chicago. Throw in the season opener down at Texas A&M Corpus Christi, and these two teams have both had their setbacks this year.

Joe Burton now into the game...

Schaftenaar got the first six minutes at the post position, and played fairly well.

Meanwhile, Omari and Calvin have six.

Anyone watching the Poinsettia Bowl?

Utah is leading California 24-14 with 45 Seconds left in the 1st Half. I’ve got Utah with 7 Confidence Points, so screw the Pac-10.

When

Both Burton and Roeland are playing well, we should be unstoppable down low.

Schaftenaar has been playing at the top of the key a lot more in this game

Previously, I felt like Coach Rob was trying to make him work down low like a more traditional post, but he’s handling the ball more in this game.

Christmas party, gotta run

I’ll have the recap up later tonight upon my return. The Beavers can’t put Fresno away for good, but looks like they’ll hang on for the win. Haynes, Wallace, and Johnson are really playing well, and Schaftenaar is headed in the right direction— all good to see.

Beavers get their 1600th win, 73-65

Just the Christmas present Beaver nation needed!

After a struggling start to the hoops season, and last night’s disaster in the desert, Coach Robinson and the Beaver ballers send us to the Holiday on a sorely needed uptick!

Great win for our confidence

And to send us into the Holiday in a good mood. We still have to improve a lot if we are going to hang with the Huskies in eight days, but this was definitely a step in the right direction.

Just back from the game

Good game, really never in doubt, was hoping that they would go twenty up at some point, but Beavs looked good and were in full control of this one. If I don’t get too busy with the next couple days I’ll try and post some reflections about the game.

How was the atmosphere?

I’m guessing it wasn’t very loud because of Christmas coming up, but was it alright?

It was okay

But yes pretty lowkey overall, the crowd got some good cheering in for the Beavs at times which was nice, but yes that bigger crowd energy was missing and I missed that. But couldn’t expect more and seemed to be just okay with the team for they played well.

I must admit I din't watch the entire game because I was flipping between the Blazer game (great game BTW)

but I liked a lot of what I saw. Still work to do though. That pass by Joe Burton from the top of the key was epic. Nice to have a big guy with a feel for the game.

The prospect of a good hi-lo game

is exciting. We have a pair of post players in Joe & Rue that could really be a special problem, especially given you don’t see a lot of that these days.
