LeGarrette Blount Reinstated
The Pac-10 has approved the University of Oregon's plan and request to reinstate running back LeGarrette Blount this morning. In announcing the action, Pac-10 Commissioner Larry Scott made the following statement:
After a thorough review of the situation, I am convinced LeGarrette Blount paid a significant and appropriate price for the mistakes he made on the field, and that he has learned important life-long lessons.
Athletic Director Mike Bellotti forwarded the University's request to Pac-10 offices late yesterday.
Blount will be available to play Saturday night when the Ducks host the Arizona St. Sun Devils.
Blount had a brief comment.
Now it is up to me to prove to people that their lasting impression of me shouldn't be be what they saw in Boise.
When I am ready to address this further with the public and the media, I will do so. Until that time, I feel my actions can speak louder than anything I could say. I just want to help my teammates who have been supportive of me.
Coach Chip Kelly will address his plans further as the week progresses, but noted there were no specific plans to play Blount, and that he is "fourth or fifth" on the depth chart.

It’s news like this that makes me even happier to be a Beaver.
In regards to his quote, sad to say but he’s always going to be the guy who melted down at Boise State but if he thinks that getting more money as a higher draft pick will soften that reality then so be it. The whole thing stinks but I could really care less.

Not gettin' the love
On a related note, LaMichael James was seen yesterday in the equipment room inquiring about the possibility of having “James” removed from the back of his jersey and replaced with “Chopped Liver”….

I think James keeps his touches. If I’m one of their “change of pace” guys I would be more worried about losing carries. James fits what they’re doing right now all too well.

i dont think he moves up past 3rd string behind Barner and James. practiced today at 5th (!!!) string. if he can give us one good play by Dec 3rd, i’ll be surprised.

He looked fat and slow at Boise State. Emphasis on slow actually… the dude’s pretty big but not fat. Out of shape perhaps.
I think the timing of his reinstatement seems interesting. Team is reeling from a loss and you throw the suspended guy back in the mix? We’ll see if this helps or hurts.

I would have to think that the reinstatement was in the works for awhile now, and I almost wonder if they figured let’s do it after beating Stanford when the whole press about a Rose Bowl, or more, will push bringing him back off the front page. The whole the positives outweigh the negatives kind-of deal, and yes it ended up not being the best of timings.
But all in all I don’t think it makes a lot of difference on the team, maybe on the program and behind the scenes administration and maybe longer term effects, but doubt it will have much an effect on the play of the team this season.

i dont think there was actually a good time to bring him back if you’re worried about public perception. if before stanford, looks desperate cuz they are good. after the loss, well it must be because they lost.
i thought waiting till after USC would get rid of that but apparently not. i’m sure bringing him back before a home game was the bigger deal. normal week of practice, etc.

I agree with this fragment of your first sentence. I don’t have a fiery passion for this topic, I simply think the university did right by him as a person and a student by allowing him to continue practicing with the team, using training facilities AND holding onto his scholarship. Very, very generous.
And to address the second half of the first sentence…
…if you’re worried about public perception.
I’d say every university, team and conference is. I think we can both agree that uo is especially aware of public perception.

James Rodgers: class act
Duck fan here. James was quoted over on Addicted to Quack, saying that he was happy to see the reinstatement, and that 3 or 4 games would have been a more reasonable punishment. He (and the whole OSU team) already had a lot of respect a little ways down I-5; now he has more. It was an important thing for an opposing player to say. Blount has a lot of negative publicity coming (can you imagine the signs they’ll have up at Arizona?), and knowing that a guy who understands something of the pressures he was under that day in Boise is willing to stand up for him has got to mean a lot. Thanks, James!
I’ll be at the Civil War, and here’s one Duck fan who’ll be cheering when James Rodgers is announced.

We already knew that :)
But thanks!
Yep about UA, I think in the end that kind of stuff will be annoying but doubt it will be all that distracting to the team. Distracting already enough with trying to win the conference I would think!

Similar to over-reshowing
Jahvid’s crash, I wish TV news didn’t feel the need to lead every preview and story with the punch.
I don’t think it helps at this point; we’ve all seen it, and I’d rather see him succeed with moving on.
