Tentative 2010 Schedule Change
(Updated)
The Washington Huskies had published a change to date for the 2010 visit from Oregon St. The Huskies' posted schedule temporarily showed the Beavers' trip north that was originally scheduled for Oct. 16 being moved to December 4th. It has been at least temporarily moved back to Oct. 16.
Seems the Huskies got a little ahead of themselves with what is not yet official, but appears to be a definite possibility.
A UW official explained that "we are looking at a number of potential changes, both for television and to give our team a bye during the season. The potential move of the Oregon State game is something that we've discussed and, preliminarily, have agreed to with the OSU athletic department - if a few other factors work out for it to happen.''
The reason is to give the Huskies a bye at the midway point of what would have been 12 straight games, with no bye. Washington will also have a bye before facing the Beavers, as the Apple Cup is scheduled in Pullman on Nov. 20.
The change would give Oregon St. two byes, as they already have an open date on Sept. 11, in between home games against Eastern Washington and Louisville. With the Civil War currently scheduled for Nov. 27 in Corvallis, the game would be the seventh straight game week of action, though four of the first six are at Reser, as the Beavers have seven home games scheduled next year.
Without the change, Oregon St. would play 11 straight weeks.
A December game in Husky stadium could translate into some severe weather; better break out the ponchos and goretex.

Interesting change. Now we end the year with the Huskies and not the CW. That’s going to be strange. Kind’ve like the year we went and played Hawaii after the regular season wrapped. Hmm…

COULD be a huge game, with TV implications
With numerous returning players for Oregon St., and a favorable 7 game home schedule, and Washington clearly improving, it is conceivable that this game could have Rose/Alamo/Holiday bowl implications, and therefore a much better TV payout than the game might have mid-season.
While not unprecedented for either school, or others in the Pac-10, I personally hate to see the 5 rivalry games not be the last games of the season, the every other year Notre Dame visit to USC not withstanding.
At least this is a rivalry type game, but I much prefer going to Seattle in October to late November, never mind December!

The more bye weeks the better for OSU
I am sure Riley was happy to do this.

Maybe its just me, but next year's Civil War will have kind of lost its luster with it not being the season ender. I don't like it.
I support Takimoto in his effort to support Roger Kieschnick in his quest to becoming the best Kieschnick ever to play professional baseball.

agreed
Byes might be good for the team, but having a conference game after the CW just does seem to take away from it a bit, the Hawai’i game didn’t seem as bad to me because it was non-conference and almost was like this pre-bowl game to the bowl game.
But who knows, if we win both and finish strong maybe it won’t matter.

Boo Hoo...
nest year we got to get past the CW being the biggest game. It would be nice if every game was the biggest. Maybe that is asking too much but the young guys coming up have talent and I seriously think that if we can avoid another slow start the Civil War will just be another game on the road to a great season. Instead of a game for the Sun Bowl which is what UO and OSU seem to usually be playing for.
