But seriously...
-Ted Miller says Quizz for Heisman. I think he just earned himself a free meal at any Corvallis area restaurant.
-This won't surprise anyone who has followed college sports in the past few years but OSU baseball lands two teams (guess which two?) on Yahoo! Sports' Best of the 2000s list. Ranked lowly, sure, but they've got two teams up there so maybe that makes it OK?
-Halahuni got in the game Saturday. Did you notice? Write up on him here.
-ESPN peeks in on this week's PAC 10 schedule. How great would it be if the Cougs managed to go winless in league BUT beat Notre Dame and St. Jimmy this weekend? Please Cougs. BEAT NOTRE DAME. (Can anyone tell that I'm NOT over the G. Bernard thing yet?)
"Hello, this is The Jimmy? What?! Notre Dame is overrated?! Mom?! Is that you?"

-Greg Laybourn lands in the UFL. Hey, it's a paycheck, right? Seems like it was just yesterday he was doing this:
Greg Laybourn Interception vs #1 USC - Mike Parker Audio (via thomasg86)
-Odds and ends from Buker on OSU Basketball (Roberto Nelson STILL hung up on NCAA paperwork), fundraising efforts and the rumors swirling around Bobby D and Michigan. Look at it this way, Mr. DeCarolis-do you REALLY want to work with Rich Rodriguez? Stay put, Bobby. Please. Do it for the kids.

Wow...
Granted, there are only 3 votes in the poll to this point, but 100% of those participating will be at the game in person! I hope that trend keeps up!

I could go either way.
I have a ticket but might give it to a family member if I can’t shake this cold. Been feeling ill on and off for a few weeks. Not H1N1 or anything like that. Just a lingering cold that hopefully won’t graduate to something more crippling.
Not sure if sitting in the rain will help that.
But we’ll see. Currently I’m planning on going to the game. If I skip, I’ll go down for the b-ball game.

I love Basketball
But a Men’s Basketball Exhibition Game is a big step down from a Pac-10 Football Game.

I really hope Bobby D doesn't leave`
But the lack of physical support we have been showing our football team has got to be frustrating him. It’s frustrating me, and I’m not trying to make money off it.
I support Takimoto in his effort to support Roger Kieschnick in his quest to becoming the best Kieschnick ever to play professional baseball.

He needs to figure out a solution for the football ticket pricing.
Cheap seats need to stay cheap, none of this “65 bucks for any seat” deals. Almost all PAC 10 schools have standing areas or general admission areas. We need to open up areas like that. If he wants butts in seats and wants to create a better atmosphere he shouldn’t wait for the economy to turn around for people to show up again. He should aggressively market to the fan who has a family or other pressing obligations and needs a good value to make getting to a game realistic. Other than that, the man has done an amazing job.

Agreed. Its all the sports marketing group’s fault. They need to price a lot better.

I’m not even asking for cheap, cheap tickets, I just think they need to prioritize what exactly they feel is most important right now: bleeding out every buck you can get out of a loyal but cash strapped fan base OR packing the stadium, making it a better place to be and have people go into the off season thinking, “Wow, I can’t wait to get back into that packed house in September!”
For me, it’s a no-brainer: lower prices, make it easier for families to get to games and find better ways to price sections. Hell, maybe even do 1/4 or 1/2 season ticket packages. Going this route is a MUCH better idea than calling out your supporters in an Oregonian article. But that’s just my opinion.

No one was calling anyone out… or did I miss it?
I’ve been horrible at attending games this year due to family and financial obligations. God knows if I’ll ever see a game again once I actually have kids!

Oh, no one in this thread, sorry
I just felt it seemed like we were explaining our reasons for not going above and I felt a little “guilty” about breaking the streak of votes, and then I read your commentary here about the AD calling out the fanbase, which made me think of that posting about his call out and how people had to defend themselves and why they can’t regularly attend games.
Kind-of I was connecting things and didn’t fully connect, but it is a sports blog for hells sake!

Cool.
Just wanted to make sure you knew I wasn’t taking any digs. I too have split priorities (mortgage, tuition, savings, blazers/beavs tix, BEER) and don’t make it to every game like I used to.
They’re basically asking for my wife and I to throw $200+ down for X amount of weekends to attend games, which is kinda ridiculous when we’re looking to do cheap seats anyway AND drive from Portland.

I didn't think anyone was here actually
I was trying, poorly it seems, to connect my postings here and that strange give and take with supporting the team and being called out.
SO, I didn’t think anyone was calling me out here, that’s VD Special’s job and he hasn’t been around much lately, but I see he’s trying his best to “offend” you!

I agree 100%. If you pack the stadium, give it an atmosphere of a lot of fun, people will want to go. By lowering the prices, it actually becomes an investment. Lower prices leads to packed stadiums. Packed stadiums (often times) leads to better recruits. Better recruits could potentially lead to better teams. Better teams lead to higher prices. If anyone read the ESPN article about Autzen Stadium, Bill Moos had it right on:
We could have added more seats to the 54,000 Autzen Stadium increasing it to 60,000. But its like a restaurant where there is a line. You see the line and think “hey, I want to get in there”
Ironically, by making it harder to get tickets, you actually make the tickets more desirable.

by The VD Special on Oct 28, 2009 12:15 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
And this is in no offense to Arby, but in continuation with the last sentence above, people who have tickets think “I’ve got a ticket, great, I’m going, because I may not know the next time I can.”
It’s a weird sports marketing world we live in. Unfortunately, Oregon knows it the best

I’m deeply offended.
Not really, but I think that the Moos/long line analogy works only when the tickets are hard to attain because of demand, NOT because of price.
To keep with the restaurant analogy, most people enjoy themselves in a restaurant that is full of people who are enjoying themselves in an affordable environment, NOT one that isn’t full only because it is overpriced.

I liked Nick Daschel's comments on Quizz...
He did a top ten players in conference, including Quizz at 1, James at 7 and Cafield in at 9.
1. Jacquizz Rodgers, RB, OSU: (Previous 2) Alabama running back Mark Ingram is the current bellcow for this year’s Heisman Trophy. Ingram is a good one, but is he that much better than Quizz, who is getting zero consideration for the Heisman? Between rushing and receiving yards, Ingram is averaging 148.8 yards per game, Rodgers 155.6 yards. Ingram has 11 touchdowns, Quizz 15. Yes, Alabama plays in the SEC, but has faced only one Top 10 team to date. Rodgers has already gone up against two top 5 teams. What hurts Rodgers’ cred is OSU’s 4-3 record. It’s too bad, because Rodgers is every bit as good as Ingram, and right now, the best offensive player in the Pac-10.

Well if Canfield keeps up his play of late
I’m not too concerned, but I do like Moevao and it has been really nice to have such an experienced back up ready to go.
Not a good way to go down though, if he does, ouch…

no problem! I’m an avid twitter follower. I figured this is something worth putting up there. Speaking as a Duck, it’s always good to have a solid backup (especially one the caliber of Moevao) but I’m also interested to see Katz get some reps. If Moevao is out for a considerable amount of time, hopefully the Beavs get Katz some reps in garbage time

Yes, I am too. His arm looked impressive against PSU but hey, that was PSU and the first game of the year. He seems to be a more athletic, more mobile version of Canfield (read: big arm) which makes me anxious to see him hit the field at some point, just not at the expense of any other player. If he earns it—or it is thrust upon him due to injuries—then so be it.
I just can’t get involved with this twitter biz. I understand the media uses are cool, but I just feel like they shouldn’t have called it twitter and just called it what it is: a lazy blog.

Canfield getting a nod from Ted Miller for SC performance.
Miller takes a look at the All-Conference QB race and gives Canfield a good shot.
Check it out right here—LINK.
…He completed 30 of 43 passes for 329 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in the Beavers’ 42-36 loss at USC.
To me, it was the best performance by any Pac-10 quarterback this season — a combination of numbers, location and opponent.
If the Beavers continue their annual second-half surge, Canfield, who seems to improve each week, likely will push to the top of the pecking order. That season finale at Oregon could be very, very interesting, considering the potential stakes for the Ducks.
And there’s this: He’s a senior, the only one of the group, who’s overcome a lot to be where he is today. That matters to many. It does to me. If it’s a photo finish between Canfield and Barkley, Luck or Foles, the tiebreaker goes to Canfield.
