Welch Ninth Verbal Commit for 2010

PrintLinebacker D.J. Welch has verbally committed to the Oregon St., according to the Palm Springs Desert Sun.
Welch, a 6'2, 200 pounder for Palm Desert High in Indio, CA, the same school that OSU cornerback James Dockery is from, was a first-team All-CIF Eastern Division selection last season, and is the second linebacker to choose the Beavers.
Welch is shown "de-cleating" the Moreno Valley quarterback earlier this season in this photo by Wade Byars of "The Desert Sun".
Scout.com shows a 40 meter dash time of 4.39-seconds for Welch, who initially had more than 20 schools after him, including Colorado and San Diego St., before several backed off due to his academics. Welch has since improved his grades, hopefully enough to get through the NCAA Clearinghouse.
